What Would a Marvel/Star Wars Crossover Look Like?
With Disney owning both Marvel and Star Wars, there is a huge possibility that there could be a Star Wars and Marvel crossover in the future. These are two of their biggest franchises, meaning there is potential for a successful crossover. But what would this crossover look like? Disney has experimented with the Multiverse, making it completely possible for the two franchises to collaborate with each other. The only issue is doing it right.
Additions to the Marvel Universe, such as Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness as well as What If…? open the door for there to be a crossover between the two franchises. There has been a slight hint at a possible crossover in the future with small snippets of what looks like Mustafar in the Multiverse of Madness trailer as well as a scene in Marvel’s What If…? This is just speculation, but it does create the possibility for there to be a crossover in the works.

Now, what would the character development look like for such a Marvel/Star Wars crossover? With so many different characters existing in both universes, it would be wise for Disney to only focus on a few of the main characters of both series. Taking the Avengers and somehow throwing them into the Star Wars universe or vice versa would make an extremely interesting story to tell. With the Avengers having godlike powers and dimensional travel on their side, it creates a plausible storyline where the two groups meet. A few things Disney must figure out before attempting to make this crossover would be how the groups get to the other universe and how the characters act amongst themselves. It will be difficult to avoid having it sound too cheesy.
Without making this sound too much like fanfiction, there is potential for a good story involving all the characters teaming up to stop a greater evil. Now, a lot of this would depend on when the crossover between Star Wars and Marvel universes takes place. If it is up to date with the current timeline, then characters like Thanos and Darth Vader would not exist in this crossover. But if they were to go back to a different time, such as pre-Endgame and during the prequel trilogy or the original trilogy, there is potential for Thanos and Darth Vader to meet. This is something that Disney would have to handle with so many fan-favorite characters no longer alive in “the present” of their respective universes. Many people would probably love to see Spider-Man teaming up with Obi-Wan Kenobi to defeat Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker and Captain America fighting against Thanos. Perhaps we will have a crossover with Mace Windu and Nicky Fury meeting each other or Groot and Jar Jar becoming best friends. There are endless possibilities to make this crossover a reality. Many of the characters have similar personalities making them ideal friends, and there are enough personality clashes to create some interesting dynamics among the characters.
With different possible crossover story ideas, Disney would have to figure out the best way to write the stories. They have the option of doing a What If…?-like series or deciding to go a whole different route and somehow incorporating it into the current timeline of events. A What If...? series would be much easier to execute. There is also more room for creativity with this route, allowing it to stay separate from the other timelines and not interfering with the canon of both franchises.
If Disney wants to do a Marvel/Star Wars crossover, they will find a way to get it done and get it done correctly.
