This Is What ‘The Lord Of The Rings’ Probably Looked Like To Sauron
Everyone knows what things looked like from the perspective of the good guys, but people often wonder what the events in Lord Of The Rings looked like from Sauron’s perspective.
It would be best if you remembered some things about Sauron. First, he was a creator; he was originally a Maia of Aule, the great craftsman of the Valar. Initially, his name was Mairon; he became Sauron when he fell under Morgoth’s influence. He did eventually repent of his doings after Morgoth was defeated and banished to The Void. However, instead of humbling himself and returning to Valinor, his arrogance and pridefulness led him to remain in Middle Earth.
RELATED:
In Middle-Earth, he saw what he thought were weaker races that would therefore be easier to dominate, creating The Rings of Power cementing this dominance. Even after the apparent blow of being defeated in the War Of The Last Alliance, his pride and arrogance remained indelible; this means that especially in his limited state of existence, the events of the Lord Of The Rings probably came as one hell of a big surprise to him.
He thought the Elves were weaker; he didn’t expect them to surge under Gandalf’s leadership. He also didn’t expect the Valar to send Gandalf back. He didn’t anticipate Saruman’s defeat by the Ents or the reappearance of Isildur’s heir; he still thought he was stronger.
And then there’s the Hobbits. Sauron was not afraid of Hobbits, as they were a newer race that went unnoticed by pretty much everyone. Therefore, when the Hobbits became main-level NPCs, Sauron probably went into shock. He remained in shock right to the bitter end, not believing what he was seeing in front of him.
So, ultimately, the conclusion is this: Sauron probably spent the events of Lord Of The Rings shocked and confused, and those emotions ultimately prevented him from doing anything that might have prevented his eventual fate.
