The Rings Of Power has introduced fans to a new age within Middle Earth. The show takes place during the Second Age, many years before the events of both The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings. One of the biggest groups we have seen in the series is the dwarves, who live far under the mountain. Fans were also introduced to new faces in the form of Prince Durin III and his wife, Disa. Both dwarves welcome Elrond into their home, which pits Durin against his father. Prince Durin is played by Owain Arthur, and Disa is played by Sophia Nomvete, both of whom sat down and had an exclusive interview with CBR, where they talk about their relationship as a dwarven married couple and praise the cast and crew for giving them a space to showcase their performances.

Owain Arthur discusses sharing scenes with Peter Mullan, who plays Durin’s father. Arthur says how he “is so generous with his input.” He talks about the scene where the father and son argue, how each take was different, and that their responses were different every time. He also says how the scene was “heartbreaking and wonderful at the same time” and that he is extremely lucky to have Peter Mullan play his father.

Sophia Nomvete discusses the scene where Disa sings after the mine collapse. She mentions how it was an incredible moment in the season and her career for her. She says that the scene was unrehearsed prior and that everything they got, they got on the same day. She and Bear McCreary worked on it after they shot it, and they worked on it in post. However, he revealed that the scene that made it into the show was the one they did live on set. The entire scene took 10 hours, and it was the first time for everyone on set to hear it. She says how you can feel Disa working out what happened and coming from a place of desperation and singing from her soul.

The two actors then go on to discuss their dynamic as husband and wife in the show. Both actors lived together and were able to form a rapport during quarantine. Arthur says how it “brought the whole world together, and made you reflect what is important in your life”. Nomvete says that they had arguments, and their lack of boundaries made them free and functioning like a real marriage. She says that these are “cultural qualities of dwarves, we can do that in abundance, and equally get grumpy and sulk a bit.”

They praise the directors of the upcoming season, who were the ones that directed their juiciest scenes this season. Nomvete says they are both so different but equally brilliant. Wayne Che Yip directed Disa’s song, and she mentions how he fought for Disa “in a way she’ll never forget”. Disa couldn’t be the subservient wife in dwarven culture, and Wayne pushed for that, and it was received really well. Arthur says how Charlotte Brandstrom is back with them for season 2 and that she lived their moments with them in season 1 and can bring their continuity to season 2.

Both actors talk about when they actually “get into” their characters. Arthur mentions how the beard is a “lot of different pieces and the prosthetics are the first to go on, so he looks like someone different.” He says, however, that he doesn’t feel complete as During until that “last piece of hair is in place.” Nomvete says for her it's the wig and contact lenses. She says that once everything is on, she feels empowered and excited.

Lastly, they discuss their scene with Robert Aramayo, who plays Elrond. Both dwarves welcome him into their home, much to the dismay of the dwarven king. Arthur says how he and Rob have the same friendship as Elrond and Durin. Nomvete says that “Rob is family.” She says that they stayed in New Zealand for the whole pandemic, and Rob was one of the people in their bubble. She also says how Aramayo is their “Tolkien Wikipedia”, and that you can ask him a question, and he will just know the answer.
