'Star Wars: The Old Republic' Storylines That We Would Love To See On Screen

Arcann from Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Fallen Empire

If you have read my last Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) article, you’d know that I love The game and its ability to engage fans and keep them coming back. This is widely due to new content being made available fairly often and telling new stories that keep the players guessing. It begs the question: if the game can make such stunning cinematic trailers, fantastic stories, and in-depth characters, couldn’t they all translate into one amazing movie or show? And if so, what DLCs or stories should make the transition over to live action? This article will focus on the ones we would love to see on the big or little screen.

Starting with the base game, my personal favorite was the imperial agent class’s questline. The idea of spies on both sides has not been truly explored on screen in the Star Wars universe. We have seen a small hint of this with Rogue One, but the imperial agent class in The Old Republic truly shows how brutal that section of time was in galactic history. On the other side of the conflict, my favorite story is the Jedi knight questline, where you get to explore the relationship between masters and Padawan. It also gives quite a fresh take on who your allies might end up being in the end, too.

My number one pick for a SWTOR movie, or television show, would be the DLC titled Knights of the Fallen Empire and its sequel, Knights of the Eternal Throne. Knights of the Fallen Empire takes our character through a slight time jump on a wild hunt for the big bad of the story in Wild Space. The party is ambushed and taken to the Eternal Empire to be questioned. Things quickly unraveled and the player’s character is framed for the murder of the Eternal Empire’s emperor, Valkorion, and placed in a deep sleep for five years. This leads directly into its sequel where the Sith Empire and the Republic are both suffering under the ruling fist of Valkorion’s son who has sent out an army over the galaxy. Soon after the death of Valkorion’s son, Valkorion’s slightly unhinged daughter Vaylin takes the throne. Her end comes soon after when she tries to attack our hero characters’ forces. These two DLCs are some of the most fleshed out of Star Wars: The Old Republic’s expansions. With new lifelong characters, redemption, sacrifice, and surprises, the stories mesh together with ease, making them one of the most exciting DLCs I have ever experienced in the game.

It is also worth mentioning a very controversial but exciting DLC that was released in 2014, long before I began playing the game. It is easy to see why Shadow of Revan can be easily adapted to the screen. It might already be on its way. There have been rumors that the Jedi-turned-Sith-turned-cult leader could soon make his debut on Disney+. With shows like The Acolyte inching closer, it makes sense to pull dark side characters from other realms of the universe and times. Revan has been a very requested addition to the big and little screen. Thousands of fans have already cast Keanu Reeves in the role (which I also agree with).

Shadow of Revan detailed the Revanites’ attempts to find the Sith Emperor from SWTOR’s base storyline in order to they may kill him once and for all. The Revanites led massive attacks on both sides of the war to attract the powerful Sith Lord back to a physical form. Our heroes, including Lana Beniko and Theron Shan from Shadow of Revan’s prelude, tried to put a stop to it. Ironically, their efforts ended up awakening the Sith Emperor after so many years of silence.

BioWare always creates excellent stories to keep players interested. They have repeatedly shown it with Star Wars: The Old Republic and have not slowed down at all. If you want fantastic storytelling, I suggest that you download the game for free on PC and go on this epic journey.
