First Look At New Droid B2EMO From 'Star Wars: Andor'
This summer has been pretty exciting for the Star Wars franchise. To start things off Disney+ premiered the Star Wars series, Obi-Wan Kenobi. That was a great series, the return of Obi-Wan Kenobi played by Ewan McGregor was cool. This past weekend, at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), many more Star Wars series were showcased. As we get closer to the premiere of Star Wars: Andor, more and more news on that show was released at the SDCC. This weekend was even more exciting because it was the first SDCC since the COVID-19 pandemic two years ago. The first look at the new droid, B2EMO from Star Wars: Andor was showcased at SDCC along with the costumes for Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly).
B2EMO, according to Jenna Anderson, “… is a very old and weary groundmerch salvage assist unit that’s been towing scrap for the Andor family for years. The droid has a wide array of mechanical tools and various capabilities to meet the functions required.” There are already a couple of nicknames for B2EMO, Bee-two or Bee. B2EMO is red and black, the machine part is red and its sensors are black. Bee-two uses treads to travel around. B2EMO was on display in a life-size model. Neal Scanlan and Jake Lunt Davies worked on the design and artistry of the droid while Josh Lee worked closely with Jake Lunt Davies on the animatronics of B2EMO to ensure the live version was like the art form of B2EMO. Jake Lunt Davies commented on creating the life-like version of B2EMO, “The final design was a result of working very closely with animatronic designer Josh Lee throughout so there were never any unforeseen surprises. The final design is a complete product of my aesthetic and Josh’s technical inputs.”

B2EMO was produced at the Beemon Laboratories which was formed around 3956 BBY, during the Jedi Civil War. The Jedi Civil War was a conflict between the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic. Beemon produced cybernetic implants, known as the Beemon package and auxiliary brain. The Beemon package was a powerful cybernetic implant used during the Jedi Civil War. This implant allowed organic beings fitted out with the device to have better resistance to pain and anxiety due to injuries and physical exertion. It appears there is a lot more to learn about B2EMO. Hopefully, the Star Wars: Andor series will provide some insight.
Unfortunately, we may not see K-2SO in the first season of Star Wars: Andor. In an interview from D23 2021, Alan Tudyk commented he (K-2SO) may not appear in Star Wars: Andor season one. At the D23 convention, he stated, “They’re shooting it right now, I’m not in it. But, if it stays on the air, stories keep getting told, I’ll end up in there.” But don’t worry Star Wars: Andor is getting a second season so we will see K-2SO. It looks like the series will provide an opportunity to learn more about B2EMO.
If you got a chance to get to SDCC 2022, then you probably caught a glimpse of B2EMO and the costumes for Cassian Andor and Mon Mothma. If not, you will have to wait until August 31, 2022, for the premiere of the first two episodes of Star Wars: Andor. The series ought to be an interesting and exciting one. Thus far, Disney+ and the Star Wars franchise have not disappointed. One can imagine that Star Wars: Andor will be just as exciting and even just as great as its predecessors (The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi).
