She-Hulk Comics You Should Read Before The Series Is released
We are two days away from the newest Disney+ show, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. It is also going to be the last show of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series follows lawyer Jennifer Walters, who has to deal with not only her clients but also her ability to turn into a milder version of her cousin, the Hulk. Over the years, there have been many iterations of her story, and the show is another version of it. It would be fun to brush up on some of her best moments throughout the years before the show airs on Thursday, August 18.
The Sensational She-Hulk By John Byrne
This special, one-shot story shows rogue S.H.I.E.L.D. agents interrupting a date between She-Hulk and her boyfriend, Wyatt Wingfoot. They are abducted, and taken aboard a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier where they are harassed by the creepy Agent Dooley. The helicarrier crashes and She-Hulk saves the day by absorbing a high amount of radiation so that it does not vaporize the nearest city. She later finds out that she may stay in her green form forever, and fully embraces it.

She-Hulk By Charles Soule And Javier Pulido
While this series was short-lived, and the art may be considered controversial in the Marvel fandom, it is a great comic with a good story. It is more of a legal drama, pulling from author Charles Soule’s legal knowledge. Her clients range from Captain America to Doctor Doom's son. It even features the trial of the century: Jennifer Walters vs. Matt Murdock.
Marvel-Verse She-Hulk By Stan Lee And Various Authors
This collection is the best way to brush up on She-Hulk in one place. It features her origin story, her meeting the legendary Blonde Phantom during a job interview, her fight against archfoe Titania in front of the Supreme Court, and when she’s found guilty of crimes against the space-time continuum. She also enjoys a night at the museum with Spider-Man. This trade paperback features The Savage She-Hulk (1980) #1, Sensational She-Hulk (1989) #4, She-Hulk (2005) #3, Avenging Spider-Man (2011) #7, and material from Solo Avengers #14.
The Savage She-Hulk #1 By John Buscema
This is where we get the origin story of She-Hulk. While prepping a case against a local crime boss, Jennifer Walters is critically injured in a drive-by shooting. Bruce Banner decides to administer an impromptu blood transfusion with his gamma-irradiated blood. The transfusion saves her life, but also transforms her into She-Hulk when she gets angry, similar to her cousin Bruce Banner. Unlike her cousin, however, she finds her transformation powerful and liberating. This establishes She-Hulk as one of the great heroines of the MCU.
Solo Avengers #14 By Chris Claremont And Alan Davis
In the backup story titled “Court Costs,” Jennifer goes to the United States Supreme Court to argue against the Mutant Registration Act. While there, she completely loses whatever poise she has left when Titania decides to pick a fight outside the courthouse. Jennifer has to interrupt the trial many, many times to stop her. This comic is a perfect showcase of She-Hulks and Titania’s rivalry.
She-Hulk By Dan Slott
Another legal drama type of story that is funny but also has plenty of heart. Jennifer Walters has tried some of the strangest cases on Earth, but now she is headed to deep space to practice universal law. On her way back, she meets up with Hercules, and has to get him out of some Herculean trouble.
She-Hulk has been through a lot, just like her cousin, Bruce Banner. However, she fully embraces her transformation. These comics showcase some of her best moments. They are fun to read up on before the series premieres on Thursday. I cannot wait for the show, and these comics will be the perfect refresher.
