Is A Tatooine Spin-Off From ‘The Mandalorian’ In The Works?
Why does everyone wanna go back to Tatooine? Since The Book of Boba Fett aired its season finale on February 9, 2022, people have been wondering if The Mandalorian spinoff series following the titular bounty hunter-turned-crime boss would be getting a second season. Despite mixed reception from fans and casual audiences and general disappointment regarding how little the series actually focused on Boba Fett, many have been hoping that the series would get renewed for a second season and address the issues present in the first season. While the fate of the series remains up in the air, a recent report may confirm that we will in fact be seeing more of Fett and his new team on the desert world.
A few days ago, entertainment insider Daniel Richtman reported that another spin-off series from The Mandalorian is currently in development at Lucasfilm. Other than its working title Ghost Track 17, not much else is known about this series beyond the initial report. While one can only glean so much from the working title, I would like to propose the possibility of this being the continuation of The Book of Boba Fett that the fandom has been anticipating. Even if the series itself has not been renewed, the adventures of Boba Fett and his tribe could still continue in a spin-off series centered on Tatooine and its many denizens. Aside from the Fett gotra themselves, a Tatooine spinoff could also put the focus on secondary characters such as Cobb Vanth, Peli Motto, Carson Teva, and even the local Tusken Raiders. A Tatooine series will allow Lucasfilm to continue the stories they have set up on Tatooine without having to make Fett the focal point.

Ultimately, we will have to see what Lucasfilm has in store for Boba, Fennec, the Mods, and Krrsantan. With everything Lucasfilm has set up on the iconic planet, it is hard to imagine they would not want to do more with these characters and their coarse, rough home. Much like Jango Fett, even if The Book of Boba Fett does not make a return, it would be nice to have a similar series to carry on the mantle.
