For over 60 years, James Bond reigned as the pinnacle of suave masculinity. Since his first movie debut in 1962, seven actors have played the notorious spy—and a new actor is soon to be added to the list. Aaron Taylor-Johnson has emerged as a front-runner in new reports for the latest 007 casting.

The next installment of the James Bond franchise, dubbed Bond 26, will reboot the story after the conclusion of Daniel Craig’s run in 2021. Producer Barbara Broccoli has stated in interviews that audiences should not expect to see Bond until 2025 at the earliest. However, new reports have surfaced this week indicating that Taylor-Johnson has completed screen testing for the iconic role.

Though the new Bond movie has been described as a “reinvention” of the character, certain traits are to be expected of any actor who takes up the mantle, namely: handsome, charming, and British. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who was most recently seen in the rollicking flick Bullet Train, certainly fits the bill. No stranger to action movies, Taylor-Johnson is most known for his roles as the titular hero in the Kick-Ass franchise, as well as his turn as Pietro Maximoff in Avengers: Age of Ultron. His resume includes boy-next-door roles (who could forget Robbie from Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging?), period piece dramas like Anna Karenina, and a Golden Globe-winning performance in the thriller Nocturnal Animals.

In terms of good looks and charm, Taylor-Johnson is certainly well-equipped to follow his predecessors. Some have pointed out that Taylor-Johnson’s casting as James Bond would mark another milestone in the character’s legacy as he would be the first Jewish actor to portray the role.

No casting news is official yet—some reports claim that Emily in Paris star Lucien Laviscount is also in the running—but Aaron Taylor-Johnson seems to be a favorite among fan casts. With his easy charm and several action roles under his belt, he would be worthy of the title.
