A Look Back On ‘Rogue One’ After Season 1 Of ‘Star Wars: Andor’
Andor Season 1 was an unexpected hit among Star Wars fans. The first season introduced us to Cassian Andor before he became a part of the Rebel Alliance. Season 2 of the show will lead into the events of Rogue One. Now that we know a little more about Cassian Andor, we can revisit Rogue One from a different point of view.
In Rogue One, Cassian was a die-hard soldier of the Rebellion who was willing to do whatever it takes to make sure the Rebellion succeeds. He even went as far as to join Jyn Erso on the suicide mission to recover the Death Star plans where they all eventually met their demise. In Andor, he was confident in his abilities but unsure of the fledging rebellion as a group. He initially joined Luthen Rael for financial gains and was unsure if they will succeed.

Andor also brought up a couple of questions. Cassian ended up in an Imperial prison in Andor, but in Rogue One, he said that he had never been locked up before. It is not a big plot hole by any means, but interesting to see after the events of Andor. Another small detail that changed was Cassian’s place of birth. In the movie, he said that he was from the planet Fest. However, the show changed this to Kenari. He also said that he lost his father when he was young due to a protest and that his mother had passed away prior to the events of Rogue One. Neither of these appears to be untrue from a certain point of view. Maarva Andor found Cassian on Kenari as an orphan named Kassa. She would later forge his paperwork to say that he was from Fest, and very few people knew that he was actually from Kenari. From the flashback scenes in Andor, we did see that his adoptive father Clem was arrested and executed for his part in a protest on Ferrix.
It is also worth noting that Andor fleshed out the character of Cassian Andor and made him more interesting. Fans finally see who he was before the rebellion. Tony Gilroy was able to bring this character no one knew much about, and breathe new life into him. Nothing drastic changed about the character from Rogue One to Andor. Tony Gilroy just took the show and its characters to the dark places that Rogue One did not go to.
It is not just Cassian Andor that is more fleshed out. The character of Mon Mothma also gets her moment. This senator appeared as a background character in previous Star Wars films. She was finally presented as the strong leader of the Rebellion in Rogue One. In Andor, however, she was unsure of her choices and how far she was willing to go. It was getting harder to move money to fund the growing Rebellion, and her cause was starting to affect her family.
Andor definitely fills in some blanks in the story of Rogue One while also opening up some minor plot holes. However, we can say that this show helps us appreciate the movie even more. I am excited to see where Andor Season 2 takes us, and how it leads into Rogue One.
