Chelli Aphra And Magna Tolvan Reunite In 'Star Wars: Doctor Aphra' #26
Things are heating up in the current run of Star Wars: Doctor Aphra from Alyssa Wong. As Crimson Dawn makes their move against Emperor Palpatine, the good doctor is wrestling with a sentient work of dark side technology. While pursuing her old friend turned enemy Kho Phon Farrus, Aphra came upon a device created by the Ascendant; an ancient group of dark side fanatics who built technology to replicate Force abilities.
The device Aphra found was the Spark Eternal, which possessed the ability to prevent those wielding it from dying. While trying to take the device, Aphra was killed, resurrected, and possessed by the sentient device, which used Aphra’s body to meet with Crimson Dawn and assist them in their plan to kill the Emperor. As Aphra forged a Sith killing sword known as the Null Blade, Sana Starros recruited a group of Aphra’s friends, family, and former lovers to help track her down.

Accompanied by Kho, Magna Tolvan, Korin Aphra, Eustacia Okka, and Detta Yao, Sana went to the planet Birukay to try and locate Aphra. Instead, they were met by Aphra’s old droids 0-0-0 and BT-1, who agreed to aid the group in locating their former master. Meanwhile, Aphra became acquainted with Miril; the Ascendant’s Chadra Fan leader who replicated and stored her consciousness within the Spark Eternal before her death at the hands of the Sith. After seeing everything Miril went through, Aphra was offered by the Chadra Fan to stay within the Spark Eternal alongside her. However, Aphra refused and attempted to find a way out as the Spark Eternal used her to forge weapons for Crimson Dawn.
After tracking down Aphra, her team of associates managed to incapacitate her and attempted to rid her of the Spark Eternal’s control. Aphra proved hard to take down at first, at one point even using the Spark Eternal to take over Kho’s calling gloves and throw the rest of their team around. Though unable to release her from the Spark Eternal, Magna was able to use her electro-tattoos to interface with Aphra’s entering her mind for a brief moment and allowing the former lovers to embrace. Before being thrown from Aphra’s mind, Tolvan was assured by Aphra that they had everything they needed.
Aphra was then confronted by 0-0-0 and BT-1, whom she took control of with the Spark Eternal and made loyal to her once again. Kho tried to stop Aphra from leaving, but the Spark Eternal whispered something to them that motivated them to leave with Aphra and join Crimson Dawn's plan. As the rest of the team followed Aphra in their ship, Aphra activated explosives which destroyed their ship and left them stranded in space. Aphra then took off in her own ship to meet with Crimson Dawn and help them in their plot to destroy the Sith.
Doctor Aphra #24, #25, and #26 are an excellent set of comics that give the story a much-needed emotional break. Seeing Aphra revisit all of the most important people in her past is a satisfying payoff for those who have been following the Doctor Aphra comics from the very beginning. 26 also leaves us on a gripping cliffhanger as the Spark-possessed Aphra rejoins Crimson Dawn for a likely reunion with Darth Vader, who Aphra has had quite the history with. Plus we’ll have to find out the offer that the Spark Eternal made to Kho Phon Farrus that got them to help Crimson Dawn. As the Hidden Empire comic event begins, Aphra had better hope she’s good enough of a doctor to fix this.
