Taika Waititi's Star Wars Movie Confirmed For Late 2023

The next Star Wars film has a release date, although right now it is more of a window than a date. Friday at Star Wars Celebration we learned that the newest film in the franchise will release in late 2023. The still-untitled Taika Waititi project will be taking the place of Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron, as her engagements with other projects she previously committed to having caused delays. When speaking with Total Film Kathleen Kennedy made it very clear that the movies are still in motion and wouldn't commit to a hard release date instead offering late 2023.

It is worth noting that Kathleen also said there was no hesitation in going past the Sequel Trilogy. She also may have tipped her hand on recasting classic characters, confirming that they are still thinking about Donald Glovers' return as Lando. While we don't know where Waititi's film will take us yet, we hope what he said in 2021 when he talked about a more sincere tone and his plans to misdirect fans. He says that he plans for the movie to be more sentimental in turn, but he also wants people to sit down and think it is one type of movie and afterward realize it was totally different. For now, however, it seems we will have to wait and see what 2023 brings, not only in television but also in film as well.
