Listen To The New 'Sonic Frontiers' Ending Theme 'Vandalize'
The ending theme for the upcoming mainline Sonic title, Sonic Frontiers, has been revealed to be “Vandalize” by the Japanese rock band One OK Rock. This song is described as a "collaborative effort" between SEGA and the band and reflects the "vast gameplay environment" and high-speed action players can expect from the game. This song is a departure from several of the themes from Sonic titles in the 2010s, and many fans consider it a return to the 2000's era of Sonic. The song was first teased on Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter on September 6th, with the band releasing the full song on their YouTube channel the same day.
One OK Rock was “extremely happy to be able to work with the world-renowned Sonic." The lead singer of One Ok Rock, Taka, said the band chose to work with the Sonic brand because they “relate to Sonic and how he’s taken on the world after getting his start in Japan,” as they too have taken on the world after similarly getting their start in Japan, having performed in Europe, Asia, and South America in addition to being based in the United States. Taka also had this to say regarding the construction of the song itself, once more describing it as a collaborative effort:
“This collaborative song, Vandalize, is very upbeat and has some Japanese-inspired melodies while also sounding like a ONE OK ROCK song. It also matches Sonic's cool image and speed when he’s running, so please enjoy Vandalize along with Sonic as he speeds across Sonic Frontiers.”
The song was instantly embraced by the Sonic community, with fans comparing it to the themes composed for the series in the 2000s. Fans have already started making fan-made music videos, including an animated lyric video made by Corey Wilder, with art by FoxieSkullzArtz. For many fans, it appears Sonic Frontiers may be marking a new era for the franchise. Sonic Frontiers speeds onto all major consoles on November 8, 2022, and is currently available to pre-order.
