'What We Do In The Shadows' Season 4 Premiere Review
What We Do in the Shadows certainly doesn't need a review because it's a certified smash hit. The show was already renewed for seasons 5 and 6 way before season 4 even premiered. Season 4 premiered with two episodes on July 12th on FX. The premiere was funny and refreshing and full of vampire hijinks, which is what we need in the world right now.
The season 3 finale left us with our favorite vampires separated and one dead. Nadja was on her way to London to be on the Supreme Vampiric Council, and Guillermo got pushed (literally) into going with her. Nandor ends up going alone on his "Eat, Pray, Love" journey, and Laszlo stays back with baby Colin Robinson. It was an emotional finale, especially since Nandor and Guillermo were separated. Season 4 picks up with Laszlo and baby Colin Robinson, who is now a toddler. The vampire house is in disarray, but Lazlo hasn't done anything about it because he's been too busy training toddler Colin Robinson to be a different version of the Colin we knew.

Laszlo also refuses to believe that toddler Colin Robinson isn't Colin at all, even though he came out of his chest cavity, so he affectionately refers to the kid as "Boy ." Nadja comes back and surprises Laszlo, but with her, she also brings back Nandor. Guillermo, who was pushed into a shipping crate by Laszlo to go to London, finally gets out and is not happy with the vampires. However, he sticks around, and does what he can to help out, and tries to put himself first. Of course, hijinks ensue, with the biggest one of the season being the creation of a vampire nightclub. The vampires hope that the nightclub can give them some money, so they can repair their home.
What We Do in the Shadows season 4 is still funny, energetic, new, and yet simultaneously the same show we know and love. The show's humor is still very much there, as we saw in the premiere. A year has passed since we last saw these characters, and there is definitely a change within them. Nandor lost his funk he had in season 3 and is back to chasing people to make his wife. Guillermo insists that he is in a good place and will put himself first after helping the vampires fix their house and also making sure toddler Colin Robinson grows up okay.
Lazslo has taken a father-like role towards toddler Colin Robinson, and Nadja has found her voice in the house full of men. The vampire nightclub was her idea. The creepiest part so far is Mark Proksch's face imposed on the body of a toddler. He plays it well, but it sure is creepy. The show keeps the same formula it always had and is a bit more toned down than the season 3 finale, and that's okay because it still has the same charm as previous seasons.
What We Do In the Shadows is the show everyone should be watching. It's a style that has been used in shows like The Office and Parks and Recreation but is different at the same time. The mockumentary is much less formal than The Office and Parks and Rec. The characters are ancient yet relatable, funny, and sometimes not the best people. It's a show you can turn on and always get a laugh out of. It doesn't take itself too seriously but also has important moments. This show should be a must-watch for everyone.
The season 4 premiere of What We Do in the Shadows brought back the same formula we all knew. It still brings the same charm as previous seasons and has the same humor as well. It opens the door for more great character growth, and I look forward to seeing what these characters do. What We Do In the Shadows is on Tuesday nights on FX.
