‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3 Episode 2 Spoiler-Free Review
WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THE MANDALORIAN SEASONS 1- 2, SEASON 3 EPISODE 1, AND THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT EPISODES 5- 7
The newest episode of The Mandalorian is here, and there is so much to discuss! Last week, we were finally reunited with Din Djarin and Grogu! We got to see a foundling ceremony and hear some of the Mandalorian tenets. After the attack on the ceremony, Din swoops in to help and speak with the Armorer. In previous seasons of The Mandalorian and in The Book of Boba Fett she told Din to travel to the mines of Mandalore and bathe in the living waters to fix his transgressions. This time, she tries to convince him not to return to the planet as it is cursed. Din has made up his mind, however. He travels to Nevarro to see Greef Karga and asks for IG-11 back so that the droid can aid in his quest. Unfortunately, the droid is beyond repair at the moment, and Din is forced to leave without it in search of the part needed to restore the droid before heading to the living waters of Mandalore. A quick stop to visit Bo-Katan reveals that her group abandoned her after she was unable to retrieve the Darksaber in The Mandalorian Season 2 finale.
This week’s episode made it clear that Star Wars is finally trying its hand at horror, and it is terrifying! After last week’s episode of The Bad Batch featured multiple elements of horror, The Mandalorian got its turn. Hidden deep within the mines of Mandalore are some of the most frightening creatures we have seen in Star Wars. This also includes some truly terrifying shots in the mines as well as in the ruins of the city. The episode had multiple jump scares and explored parts of Mandalore that we have not seen in any live-action project to date. The planet of Mandalore is not cursed, but is in desperate need of people that can band together to rebuild. The aftermath of the Night of a Thousand Tears is evident everywhere you look and leaves anyone that passes into the planet’s atmosphere completely cut off.

After an unforeseen setback for Grogu and Djarin, Bo-Katan teams up with them in to help and also prove to Djarin that there is nothing left of Mandalore to save. She gives us a bit of history about Mandalore, the creatures that once lived there, and her family. This is the first time most fans have learned anything about Bo-Katan especially if they did not watch The Clone Wars.
Grogu is the star of this episode, and we get a few moments where it seems like he might be trying to talk. I’m keeping my finger crossed that we will get his first words sometime soon. The episode quickly builds tension as things continue to go wrong for Djarin and Grogu. The final moments of the episode are outstanding and will leave fans with their jaws on the floor. I am curious to see how they will change Bo-Katan and the entire show.
Many fans complained that the episode was too dark and compared it to Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. I watched the episode in the middle of the day and could see everything just fine.
New episodes of The Mandalorian are available to stream every Wednesday on Disney+.
