One of the things that Star Wars: Andor continues to do well week to week is reminding the viewers how much authoritarian poison most people are willing to swallow in the name of security. Viewers have seen the Empire slowly tigtening its grip on the galaxy. And now it seems fans are closer than ever to seeing how hard a regime can push their citizens before the citizens start to take open action against them.

This week focuses more on the prison storyline, and the way characters interact in the setting. Throughout the last two episodes, and this one, the prisoners have all been coping with their sentencing in different ways, from counting the days they have left to silently resigning themselves to the knowledge they will likely die on Narkina 5.

RELATED:

During the episode, we finally begin to see cracks form in the facade of the prisoners' collective subjugation. At last, the straw that would break the camel's back finally fell. Even the few prisoners who were content to count the days left in their sentences appear to think differently as the Empire continues to demonstrate its value for human life.

Outside of Narkina 5, we catch a few glimpses of this same Imperial authority being exerted on the citizens. Citizens worried about what the Empire may find in financial audits of accounts, the Empire using less than pleasant interrogation tactics, and even their use of prisoners as bait.

All across the galaxy, the Empire appears to be coming down hard on anyone who steps out of line. And that blanket of oppression will be their undoing. Week to week, fans of the show are seeing just how bad the material conditions of the galaxy had to be to foment enough revolutionary energy to kick off open warfare against the Empire. Star Wars: Andor has been a welcome change to the usually shallow political theory in Star Wars. Allowing fans to explore this aspect in more depth than ever before in the Star Wars universe.
