Welcome back to our weekly House of the Dragon review! This review contains no spoilers from episode three but may contain spoilers from Episodes one and two

As I mentioned in last week's review, Episode one acted as a hook for new and returning Game of Thrones fans. It did not feature a title sequence and focused on the violence and shock factor that its predecessor was known for. Many fans are still talking about Aemma’s birthing scene. Episode two chose to slow it down a bit and not only featured the official title sequence for House of the Dragon but also focused more on the politics that were prominent in the current era. Episode two also focused on setting up the internal conflicts within House Targaryen and King Viserys’ small council. As each new episode releases and the world of House of the Dragon continues to evolve, it makes me more and more excited to see what the rest of this season and Season two have in store.

Since we now know all of the main players, episode three was our first glimpse of what the rest of the season will most likely look like. The introductions are done, and now we get to see how the game is going to be played. Episode three gave us another time jump within the series. Early character portraits made fans aware that there was going to be a major time jump at some point within the series, and I am curious to see when we will finally see the older actors coming in.

This episode also gave us our first glimpse of war within the House of the Dragon world, and like with Game of Thrones, it was visually stunning. Unlike its predecessor, we got to see what war looks like with dragons and how that impacted the strategy needed by both sides participating. While the battle was short, it was everything fans had come to love about Game of Thrones. The moves were fluid like a dance, the cinematography was impressive, to say the least, and there was plenty of blood. The final shot of Episode three leaves fans on a bit of a cliffhanger and makes us wonder what this moment will mean for the unrest in the Stepstones and King Viserys’ ability to keep control of the realm.

Rhaenyra stepped more into her own in this episode, and we got to see a side of her that we had not seen previously in the first two episodes. I have a feeling this is how her older self will be like later in the season. We also started to see the cracks forming within her and Viserys’ relationship. It is going to be interesting to see how and if their relationship changes later in the series. Lastly, we finally got to see the dragons as the powerful creatures that they are. Up until this episode, the dragons were used as signs of power as opposed to actually seeing their true power at work. The dragons’ displays of power in this episode were truly breathtaking.

Overall, I really loved this week’s episode, and I think it is my favorite in the entire Game of Thrones franchise! Game of Thrones, took me a few episodes to get hooked, but House of the Dragon had me hooked since the opening scene of the first episode. I have enjoyed getting to know the younger characters and the actors that portray them, so I am excited to see when we will get to meet the older versions of them. I also have high hopes that we will get more dragon content in the coming episodes!

All-new episodes of House of The Dragon will air Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and will stream the same day on HBO Max.
