'Invincible' Season 2 Episode 1 Review
Invincible is finally back, as season 2 finally premiered on Prime Video, and it seems that Mark still cannot catch a break. It picks up after the shocking season 1 finale, and how the world is healing from what happened. There are new faces and threats, some of whom are here to make Mark’s life harder, but also the return of many familiar faces. From what was seen in the premiere, we’re in for an exciting season.
Emotions are high during this premiere, as Mark, his mother, and the world have to deal with the aftermath of what occurred between Omni Man and Invincible. We see Mark and his mother start to go back to their normal lives of work and school. They are learning how to be a family again, with just the two of them. Mark reunites with the important people in his life, like his girlfriend Amber. The two of them hope to attend college together, and in the premiere, we get a cute moment between them reading their college letters. He also meets with Eve, and they discuss the events of what happened, and how Mark is feeling.
RELATED:
Mark isn’t ready to give up his superhero life, not that he was going to, but after the events of the finale, it would be smart for him to step back for a bit. He goes to Cecil, asking him to put him back out there. Cecil, rightfully so, is worried that Mark could end up like his father. Eventually, he gives in but puts him on a short leash for now. This probably wasn’t the smartest idea Mark has had, as he once again gets pretty beat up and bloody at the end of the episode.
We see the return of the Immortal, who is the new leader of the new Guardians Of The Globe. The newest threat however is a man named Angstrom Levy, who can open up portals to different dimensions. He recruits the Mauler twins, to help him achieve his goal of acquiring knowledge of himself from the other dimensions. He is voiced by Sterling K. Brown, who was an incredible casting choice for this role. He is an intriguing character, who seems like he will be a difficult threat for Mark.
The most shocking moment of the premiere was the beginning. We got to see a world, where Mark sided with his father. There was death and destruction everywhere, even though Mark promised the people that if they surrendered, no harm would come to them anymore. We also saw how the Guardians Of The Globe, and Atom Eve would be. Unfortunately, it did not look good for any of them, as Mark was ruthless in this sequence. At first, I thought it was a dream sequence, but once the show introduced Angstrom Levy, it made much more sense. It seems that the use of these various dimensions might come into play this season, and it will be interesting to see what happens.
The animation as always is incredible, and so is the music accompanying it. The casting continues to remain incredible, and this includes the new additions added to this season as well. The premiere was a bit slower but had its moments. It was still exciting and left me wanting more. I cannot wait to see where the rest of this season goes.
