‘I Am Groot’ Is An Instant Boost Of Serotonin

Groot listening to music and relaxing on the beach

We could all use some lighthearted content right now, and with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3  still a long way away, Disney has released a series of six shorts to hold us over, starring everyone's favorite tree, Groot. Each episode is absolutely adorable and had me laughing. It is also a nice 5-6 minutes, so it is easy to binge. Groot is truly a fan favorite, and this series proves that.

Each I am Groot short has their own title and theme, and depict a different shenanigan of Groot. We get to see Groot doing different activities, and even getting into things he probably shouldn’t be getting into, all while being the cute loveable tree we all know.

RELATED

“First Steps”

After Groot takes his first steps out of the pot he has been in, he gets jealous of a tree. Eventually, he helps the tree, and they become friends.

“The Little Guy”

Groot is mad at the bigger animals taking his space. Then, he finds a civilization smaller than him and decides to help them out. He ends up stepping on them, but they turn out okay.

“Groot’s Pursuit”

Groot in his PJs dancing with a strange creature

Groot investigates a spooky noise he heard while sleeping. He, in his cute little PJs, finds the creature, and they have a dance battle. Everything seems fine until Groot traps him and blows him out of the airlock.

“Groot Takes a Bath”

While Groot is taking a bath in a puddle, he rubs some mud on himself and starts growing leaves. He decides to shape the leaves into different forms, such as a centaur, and even Marie Antionette. However, the fun appears to be over when the puddle dries up. A bird-like creature with a long fluffy tail mocks his predicament. So Groot takes its luscious furlike feathers and now has a cool new scarf for the journey ahead.

“Magnum Opus”

Groot creating art

Groot creates the cutest family portrait using different items from each of the Guardians. Rocket makes an appearance, and investigates the mess, and subsequent explosion that  Groot caused while creating his art. All is forgiven, however, when Rocket sees the portrait, saying "We got to get this framed.” This is probably my favorite of the shorts.

I love that the episodes are small bite-sized pieces of Groot’s antics. It does not add anything to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it doesn't need to. I Am Groot is just a small series of shorts for those who love Baby Groot and want more of him. This show is the perfect amount of Groot content and succeeds in getting Groot’s gimmicks across without being overdone. I hope we get another series of shorts like this, and that the MCU continues to experiment with this type of streaming content. It’s offbeat but enjoyable, and easily one of my favorite parts of the new MCU. My only complaint is that the credits take up so much time of the already short episodes.

This series is perfect and a must-watch for anyone who loves Groot, and really any Marvel or Guardians of the Galaxy fan. They are perfect for a quick binge, and definitely a serotonin booster. They are sure to put a smile on your face at least once.

I am Groot is now streaming on Disney+
