'Ahsoka' Episode 4 Review

Ahsoka Tano

We are halfway done with Ahsoka, and what a ride it's been so far. It feels like each episode is better than its previous one, and this one is no exception. There were plenty of great lightsaber fights, and some surprises that fans will be screaming about – I definitely was. This episode was quintessential Star Wars, and I loved it.

** Spoilers for Ahsoka episode 4 below**

This episode gave us plenty of great lightsaber battles. Huyang is trying to repair their ship, when he is ambushed by Marrok and some HK-class droids. Ahsoka and Sabine confront the droids and end up in a fight with Shin Hati and Marrok. Sabine and Shin have a redo of their last battle. You can tell that Sabine’s training has been paying off, as she can hold her own a lot better this time. Ahsoka takes on Inquisitor Marrok. The two fight, but she eventually makes quick work of him, and he explodes into dust. With all the speculation about who Marrok is, it's a bit of a letdown to make him go out like that, but knowing Star Wars, he will probably be back.

Ahsoka leaves and confronts Baylan Skoll, who is currently protecting the star map. The two of them exchange jabs, and then a fight ensues. Ahsoka is great with her lightsabers, but so is Baylan. He is extremely skilled and puts up a good fight for Ahsoka. Ahsoka, being worried about Sabine fights back even harder until Sabine makes an appearance. She tells her to destroy the star map, but then is pushed over the edge. With Ahsoka presumed dead, Sabine is upset. Baylan tells her that to find her friend, she should follow them. Now Sabine has always been a great character, but her choice here, in my opinion, was not smart. I understand she wants to find her friend, but teaming up with the bad guys is not the way to do it. She ends up giving back the Star Map and is now in the custody of Baylan, Shin, and Morgan. The four of them, with the Eye Of Sion activated, launch into hyperspace, to find Thrawn and Ezra.

We also see a bit more of Hera and Jacen, who go against the orders of the New Republic. Since they denied her request for a fleet, she made her own. A familiar face, Carson Teva, joins her newly minted Phoenix Squadron. Together, they go to the Denab system, to rescue Ahsoka and Sabine, but get there a bit too late.

Before the episode ends, however, we see Ahsoka, who is indeed not dead. Well, not yet at least. She wakes up and is in a very familiar place that Rebels fans will instantly recognize as the world between worlds. Now, it was speculated and rumored that Hayden Christensen was going to reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker once again in Ahsoka, and it seems that rumor came true because, at the end of the episode, we get to see Hayden as Anakin once again. It appears that this won’t be the only time either, with how the episode ends, we can expect him in next week’s episode too.

Everything about this episode was great. We finally got to see a bit more of Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati, both of whom are interesting characters. We got to learn more about Baylan in this episode, and the reason he wants to help bring Thrawn back. The lightsaber fights were fluid and exciting to watch, and hearing the blades clash together was extremely satisfying. The filming was also great this episode, and brought me back to the filming of the prequels and sequels. The flowing of the robes, and the lightsaber fights, all brought me back to the movies, and it’s wonderful.

While episode 4, was a bit longer than the previous episode, it still felt a bit too short. It does, however, set up episode 5 quite nicely, especially with the reveal at the end. This show keeps getting better and better, and with the return of Hayden Christensen, I am especially excited for the next episode.

New episodes of Ahsoka are released every Tuesday at 6 PM PST/ 9 PM EST on Disney+.
