Zack Snyder Shares His Thoughts On The Upcoming Black Superman Movie
Zack Snyder is showing support for his friend J.J. Abrams’ upcoming new take on the Man of Steel, aka Superman as a black centric character. At a press conference promoting his Netflix film, Army of the Dead, Snyder comments to many outlets that he is excited to see how J.J executes the project, having a black Superman front and center for the upcoming project from Warner Bros.
"My feeling is that I love J.J. [Abrams], I love what he's done in the past. I'm interested to see what happens, it's a bold and cool and probably long overdue move. But I love Henry [Cavill] as Superman, of course, I do. He's my Superman."
Cavill is best known as the latest actor to portray cinematic Clark Kent aka Kal-El aka Superman in Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Justice League (2017/2021).
Abrams and journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates are set to work on the Superman reboot, with Abrams producing and Coates writing the screenplay. Snyder adds:
“I'm not really involved in any of the decision-making at Warner Brothers in any way, so I guess for me it's just wait and see what they do with this and how it manifests itself. But on the surface, it seems interesting."
The recent story from Warner Bros about having the Superman character rebooted as a black man has been very divisive among various fans, thus accusing Warner Bros of forcing diversity into that film project.
As for Snyder and Cavill, they are not currently involved with any future installments of the DCEU, and we are not sure if they will return, as fans are clamoring for follow-ups to Man of Steel and Zack Snyder’s Justice League since the latter was a critical success for the HBO Max streaming service earlier in 2021.
