What Happened To The Observer In Dead By Daylight?

The Observer

Dead by Daylight, since its release in 2016, has added countless different playable killers and survivors. Some killers and their counterparts include Amanda Young and Detective Tapp, Michael Myers and Laurie Strode, the Demogorgon with Steve and Nancy, Leatherface, Freddy Krueger, and Pinhead and more, including Dead by Daylight original characters.

One specific character sticks out to guide players despite being unplayable. The Observer, a character trapped but hidden in the Entity's mysterious realm, helps players begin to understand the survivor or killer of their choice by unlocking their stories in "The Archives" via Tomes. Recently, the game completed it's most recent tome, highlighting Jigsaw specifically, and is on the road to update The Archives with a new set of unlockable pieces of information. PC players got a small sneak peek as to what the coming update, due to be out Thursday, April 28th, might have in store for us. We even got a tiny trailer at the time of writing this!

Dead by Daylight's creators over at Behaviour Interactive allow PC players to switch to a "public test beta", or, PTB, in order to test out new and exciting features and updates that come to the game at a later point. These opportunities happen quite often, and some players discovered an alarming missing piece in the most recent PTB. The Observer is missing and with little clues in his tower, it's sparked some interesting theories among fans of the game.

The absence of the Observer was alarming to players

However, remember that trailer I mentioned? Dead by Daylight released the trailer for Tome 11, titled Devotion with a focus on The Twins as the star killer, and David as their survivor counterpart, on April 26th. The trailer starts out focusing on Captain Pierce, a woman leading a group of travelers through the Entity's realm. Pierce and her team come across a tall tower and inside it, they find The Observer who desperately does what he can to defend himself. Pierce is kind enough to try reaching out to help him and suddenly, he vanishes. The question: Where did he go?

My theory, and probably most of the fanbase's theory, is that The Observer has been swept up by the Entity. The recent trailer is a mystery all together, but what I am focused on is how unstable the Auris, a device that allows the Observer to see into the memories of those in the fog, seems to be. It's usual fluid spinning is very choppy and I fear that the Entity might be attempting to corrupt it so that the Observer is no longer hidden. These theories unsurprisingly run into what is coming next, and what might happen to our trusted advisor.

The Observer oversee the players in the realm

With all of this going on and seemingly setting up a bigger story, there is a chance it might have to do with Dead by Daylight's upcoming 6th anniversary. Each anniversary brings a new chapter, and while sometimes they are licensed and sometimes they aren't, it seems this one might not be if the fanbase is correct. The running theory is that the Observer might be the next killer or survivor. Most of the internet seems to lean heavily into the idea that he may be our next killer, but I am on the survivor side of things (and that might just be because I am a survivor main, truthfully.)

Whatever may happen I really enjoy the way that Behaviour is moving with the game. I've always enjoyed lore heavy games and this is the first real multiplayer I have been able to stick with consistently. The lore is interesting on it's own and I am apart of the group of people that think that a campaign version of the game would be fascinating!

Tome 11 is available on all platforms on Thursday, April 28th. Dead by Daylight is available on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox series X/S, Switch, Stadia and there is a mobile version for Android and IOS.
