Universal Announces Blumhouse Horror Movie Release Dates, Including Sequels To 'FNAF', 'M3GAN', & The 'Black Phone'
We live in the era of the sequel. And remake. And reboot. Hollywood likes to lean back on the safe, known properties. That’s why when a new risk is taken that pays off, the executives milk that cash cow for all it’s worth. This is especially the case for the horror genre. Horror has always been a very low-risk/high-reward kind of film. They’re generally super cheap to make, and have an entire month where they are the prime genre to watch. With the successes of studios like Blumhouse, it’s no surprise that we’re seeing more.
Blumhouse recently released its slate for a few upcoming films; sequels to M3GAN, The Black Phone, and Five Nights at Freddy’s. Given the Five Nights at Freddy's game has countless sequels, it was a foregone conclusion that we’d get another movie unless the first film bombed spectacularly. With a box office take of almost 300 million on a budget of 20 million, it did not. The ending of M3gan itself teased a sequel, as did its 181 million dollar box office take, and The Black Phone also did well enough to warrant another film, even if the first one ended perfectly.
