Within the Star Wars galaxy, there are several characters that catch the eyes of many fans. Characters like Darth Vader, Master Yoda, or Luke Skywalker, are icons that are remember from fans of all walks of life. There are also several amazing droids like R2-D2, Chopper, and K-2SO, who are also great icons for the franchise. Although there were amazing people and droids, we always forget that there are also iconic, and terrifying creatures that represent so much within the Star Wars saga. Here are the top five most terrifying creatures within the Star Wars galaxy.
5 - The Rancor
This terrifying beast was first introduced in Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. The rancor was a huge carnivore beast that was used as a source of entertainment in Jabba’s palace. Some rancors were native to the planet Felucia, yet could adapt to many living environments. Rancors were usually predatory beasts that fed on mostly meat, and weren’t really capable of thinking, or any strategic brain development.

4 - The Krayt Dragon
This horrifying beast was first shown via skeleton back in 1977, in Episode IV. Its call is also what Obi-Wan used to scare the Tusken Raiders away. We had heard about how they might have subdued prey, but we actually never saw an actual Krayt dragon onscreen for many years. That all changed when The Mandalorian came along. Season 2 gave us the very first onscreen look at a Krayt dragon, and it did not disappoint. The dragon itself was huge, and its thick armor could repel blaster fire, and explosives. They were also super fast swimming in the dunes of Tatooine, and seemed to be very smart. Thanks to this amazing series, we were able to see why the Tusken Raiders were so afraid back in 1977.
3 - The Sarlacc
These parasitic giants could be found on various planets. The creature attached itself to the plant’s crust, and fed’s on anything close to it. Most people would think that the sarlacc was only the small mouth that we saw. That is actually the creature’s mouth and it’s what it used to trap victims and eat them. One of the downsides of a sarlacc was, like Threepio said, you would be digested for thousands of years. This terrifying creature was also introduced in Episode VI.
2 - Geonosian Parasite Worm
These monsters were introduced in The Clone Wars animated series, during the Geonosis arc of the show. These small green worms could enter orally through the body, and take of the body in an almost zombie-like state. These horrible creatures almost defeated an entire battalion of clones. They could have ended up having an entire planet with zombie-like parasites, enough to take on the Republic forces. These creatures were very vulnerable, but their powers over others could be strong.
1 - The Zillo Beast
This extraordinary creature was also introduced in The Clone Wars, and it showed the power of nature. This creature awoke during the Battle of Malastare and was basically unstoppable, wrecking the city of Coruscant, when the beast was moved there. The Zillo Beast was also known to resist many more attacks, but its armor was amazing. The armor was a shell around its body and strongly resistant to blaster fire, and could even hold a lightsaber’s swing. After finally putting the beast to sleep, and keeping it under control, Chancellor Palpatine ordered the creature to be taken for studies, but the creature was never heard from again onscreen, though a Zillo Beast did appear in the comic Age of Resistance: Kylo Ren.
These beasts not only represent the horror element of Star Wars, but also give he galaxy many reasons to be afraid of the unknown, making us see that there are things out there that are worse than Vader…
