Tony Gilroy Reveals The Directors For 'Star Wars: Andor' Season 2
With a Rotten Tomatoes average Tomatometer rating of 92%, Disney+ made one of its easiest decisions: greenlighting another season for Star Wars: Andor. There are still three episodes to go, but showrunner Tony Gilroy has already tapped three new directors to help build upon the Andor mythos laid out in Season 1. Barring a special guest director, Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz, and Alonso Ruizpalacios will helm the next chapter of this Star Wars story that inevitably culminates in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Tony Gilroy has also confirmed Season 2's structure will mirror Season 1's. Kleiman, Metz, and Ruizpalacios will each direct blocks of episodes that bind together the overall story arc. Also confirmed is Kleiman will direct Season 2's first three episodes.
These filmmakers are storytellers as well; the proof is in their filmography.
RELATED:
Ariel Kleiman has had a good 2022. His directorial stints include the eighth episode of Showtime's series Yellowjackets entitled "Flight of the Bumblebee" and two episodes of the dark comedy The Resort.
Janus Metz's TV filmography includes directing one episode of True Detective Season 2, which starred Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams. He has also worked with Chris Pine and Thandiwe Newton in Amazon Prime's original film, All The Old Knives. Once he arrives on set, he likely will find a familiar face, having worked with Stellan Skarsgård on the film Borg vs. McEnroe.
Metz is not the only one returning to a familiar face; Alonso Ruizpalacios directed a couple of episodes of Netflix's Narcos: Mexico, the TV series which starred Diego Luna.
With the introduction of these three directors, Andor: Star Wars has poised itself to have another banner year in 2024.
