Thrawn creator Timothy Zahn is wanting to tell more stories relating to the character, as he revealed during an event in Paris. Those stories are planned to fit into the timeline between his disappearance at the end of Rebels and his reappearance in Ahsoka.

Back when Star Wars only had the Original Trilogy to its name, novels were where the story continued. With Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn, a new villain by the name of Grand Admiral Thrawn entered the scene. Since that time, he has become a fan favourite, being one of the first characters to be reintroduced to canon after the Disney takeover. With Ahsoka set to feature his live-action debut, the excitement surrounding the character has never been higher.

Canon trilogies Thrawn and The Ascendancy have filled in a lot of the backstory for Thrawn and the Chiss society. Before and interlinking with Rebels, those novels were focused on the past. With Ahsoka, the time has come to look to the future of the character, and it seems that Zahn has been doing the same. “I would like to write more novels,” he stated. “And we pitch ideas to Lucasfilm. As for Thrawn, there’s a nine-year gap between the end of Rebels and the character’s reappearance in Ahsoka. There are things to do during this time. I’ll keep you up to date.”

Since Zahn has been instrumental in retaining the character of Thrawn, working with Dave Filoni during Rebels and Ahsoka to keep the character consistent with his vision, it’s likely his plans will be accepted.
