This Iconic 'Star Wars' Location Will Return In Kenobi Series
The Obi-Wan Kenobi series is kicking production into high gear, and we are finally getting to rake in all the juicy details and leaks, hopefully with more to come. We have already seen a video showing off the set construction of what appears to be Tatooine, and we have seen photos of Ewan McGregor’s glorious Kenobi beard. Now, we have gotten a view at another set photo that teases the return of an iconic location for the series.
Over last weekend, Twitter user @OutlawNoah posted pictures on social media of what appears to be the set of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Not only that, but it also looks like the set they are building is the moisture farm owned by Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, whom we know thanks to the casting announcement will be returning to the series. Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse will be reprising their roles as the two from the prequels. The building shape and surrounding area bear a striking resemblance to the ones seen at the end of Episode III and the beginning of Episode IV. That being said, there is no guarantee that this is, in fact, the moisture farm that is shown in the picture. This could just be an extra building or some other part of the set. However, with the information that we know from the end of the prequels, it would seem to be a safe bet. We know that at the end of the prequel trilogy, Obi-Wan goes into self-imposed exile on Tatooine, and we know that he leaves Luke in the care of Owen and Beru. That lends a lot of support to the set photos and fans being correct in their theories.
Aside from those set photos, we have also gotten an official synopsis for the show. The synopsis reads,
“The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.”
We also have the casting information along with this. Kumail Nanjiani, Rupert Friend, Indira Varma, Sung Kang, and Benny Safdie will be joining Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen. McGregor and Christensen will, of course, be reprising their roles as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker respectively.
This is most of the knowledge known about the show at the moment, and it appears that this just confirms what fans already know. Most people who have seen the Star Wars movies know what happened between Obi-Wan and Anakin in Revenge of the Sith and how their story ends in A New Hope. There has also been no official word about the set photos or videos, and I don’t expect there to be. Although, I think fans are on the money with their speculation. It is tough because of how highly anticipated the show is and how much fans are clamoring for any amount of information they can get.
While I don’t think Disney, Lucasfilm, or anyone involved with the show will let any information out to the public that isn’t supposed to be, I do think we will have more information on it as shooting continues. The casting information, the set photos and videos, and the synopsis will have to tide everyone over until more official announcements are made. Kathleen Kennedy, Deborah Chow, and Ewan McGregor are producing the show. Deborah Chow is set to direct, and the series is being written by Joby Harold, Hossein Amini, and Hannah Friedman. With all of the talented people involved, the show looks to be in fantastic hands.
