This Central Character From 'Rogue One' Will Reportedly Make Appearance In 'Andor' On Disney+
Star Wars: Andor is the show that fans have known to be in development for a long time, and yet it has been pretty quiet more often than not. That is not really a bad thing, given that secrecy can enhance one's viewing experience when there are not many expectations. However, there have been reports lately of what more we can expect from the series.
What we have already known for a while is that this Disney+ series, which is expected to come out in 2022, begins five years before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is considered by many people to be the best of the Disney era Star Wars films. While Diego Luna is reprising his role as Cassian Andor, his co-star Alan Tudyk will not reprise his role as K-2SO right away. The latter has explained previously that he is being saved for a later season.
We have known for a while that Genevieve O'Reilly will be reprising her role as Mon Mothma. And it is a no-brainer that Forest Whitaker would return as Saw Gerrera (as co-star Stellan Skarsgard has revealed), given how actively he is fighting against the Empire in this era. However, there is one character from the film whom many people doubted would appear in the series, given that he is not tightly connected to Cassian Andor. But it appears that he could be making his way onto the show after all.
Here is what The Direct just reported:
"According to The Direct's sources, Rogue One Ben Mendelsohn will reprise his role as Orson Krennic in Star Wars: Andor. Mendelsohn's rumored role in the series has yet to be confirmed by Disney and Lucasfilm.
The extent of Mendelsohn's role in the show is currently unknown."
That's right. According to The Direct, Director Krennic (That was a bit of a tongue-twister.) will be returning to live-action Star Wars in the Andor series. As they state, this has not been confirmed by Disney or Lucasfilm, but The Direct seem to trust their sources enough to report on this. The reason one might not expect Director Krennic to appear on the series is that, if one were to just watch Rogue One, they might believe that he and Cassian Andor have never crossed paths before. They only ever meet each other when Cassian shoots him at the end of the Battle of Scarif, and Cassian sees him from afar earlier in the film on Eadu, when he is tasked to assassinate Galen Erso.
However, there really is not anything in the film explicitly indicating that Cassian Andor and Orson Krennic have never crossed paths before. For all we know, maybe they have flung words at each other amidst other missions. Then again, maybe they could end up being involved in the same battles without ever actually meeting each other, which would be realistic, in all honesty. There is even the possibility that perhaps the series could have moments when it cuts to Krennic fulfilling his own agenda while Cassian is on a completely separate path. The example I always think back to is the Breaking Bad prequel series Better Call Saul, a huge chunk of which has the titular character never really interacting with villain Gus Fring (played by Moff Gideon actor Giancarlo Esposito). There are multiple ways that Krennic could be depicted on the series.
Of course, there has been no official confirmation at the moment, so we will just have to wait and see whether any of this comes to pass. But every bit of info about the series that comes out has the potential to get fans more excited for its eventual release.
