The Way Dooku Was Able To Turn The Galaxy Against The Republic
During the time of the Clone Wars, Count Dooku was one of the most important figures throughout the galaxy, as the leader of the Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS), also known as the Separatist Alliance. Although many believed the CIS to be the enemy, many systems in the galaxy believed it was the Galactic Republic who were the true enemy.
Many of this allegations were made due to Dooku’s power of speech. Count Dooku was involved in Darth Sidious’ plan to turn the galaxy against each other, which led to the creation of the Empire. But how did they achieve this? While Sidious played the puppet master as the Republic’s Chancellor, Dooku ruled the CIS and controlled many other corporations for his dear master.
But how did Dooku, and his master, manipulate the entire galaxy? The answer is within the war itself. As the Republic fell to the hand of Palpatine, Dooku exposed all the flaws of the Republic to the rest of the galaxy. Legends explained this in many ways, but canon shows us a far darker way of how Dooku turned the galaxy against the Republic.
Toward the end of the war, the Republic became very fragile and corrupt. Tons of planets were starving, dying, and being forgotten by the Republic, as the Republic stopped caring about its system, the Senate only discussed war, and not a solution to the problem. Dooku, being a master deceiver, took this opportunity to spread the Republic’s weakness to the rest of the systems.
The Republic was bankrupted at the end of the Clone Wars, as all the credit loans it had went directly to Kamino for the production of more clones. This was well known to the many planets within the republic, as they felt forgotten by their own government. Many systems also fell to the CIS as the CIS let systems govern their own planet instead of a full government for all.
Another flaw of the Republic that Dooku used to spread around the galaxy was that of the corrupted Jedi. Through the ages, the Jedi were seen as peacekeepers, and were very well respected by the entire galaxy. During the time of the Clone Wars, the Jedi lost most of their respect in the galaxy, due to their involvement in politics and acting more as soldiers than peace keepers.
Dooku, through the war, spread these claims to the galaxy about how the Republic had turned into a troops factory, and how the Jedi went from being respected figures to simple war generals. These rumors were believed by many in the Outer and Mid Rim of the galaxy. Some systems even created their own militia to fight off the Republic and the CIS alike.
Dooku’s spread of the failure and corruption of the Republic made it easier for the galaxy to accept the Empire. When Palpatine announced that the Jedi were traitors, the galaxy believed it, as they also believed that the Jedi were hungry for power within the Senate. This made Order 66 go unnoticed by many within the galaxy, since the Jedi were seen as traitors who wanted to take over the Senate and kill the Chancellor.
The spread of all these matters, made the Empire possible, and Sidious (using Dooku) created the greatest of all lies. Dooku’s power of speech gained him half of the galaxy to join the CIS, and made the Republic loose all its mighty power and respect.
Only a few senators like Bail Organa, Mon Mothma, and Padme Amidala kept the principles of the Republic and fought for the people. They were Dooku’s greatest enemies, as they tried to screw with his master’s brilliant plan.
During the Clone War, Dooku was the most powerful force to be reckoned with, even if there was always someone pulling the strings from the shadows. Even after his death, Count Dooku would always be admired and respected by some who remembered the Clone Wars.
