With this announcement, fans got their first look at the poster for the series.

The history of Netflix’s The Last Airbender remake dates back several years, as the series was originally announced in 2018 when it was also announced that creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko would be returning as showrunners for the live-action remake, along with series composer Jeremy Zuckerman. However, DiMartino and Konietzko would depart from the series due to creative differences, and Albert Kim was brought on to replace them as the series’ showrunner. DiMartino and Konietzko have since started work on an animated The Last Airbender movie under Nickelodeon’s Avatar Studios, which is expected to release in 2025.

The series hopes to rectify many of the mistakes made by M. Night Shyamalan’s 2010 adaptation of The Last Airbender, the existence of which many fans refuse to acknowledge. Whether or not Netflix’s adaptation lives up to the anticipation is a big question in the minds of many Avatar fans, though thankfully they won’t have to wait much longer to find out.

Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender series stars Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio Tarbell as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, and Dallas Liu as Zuko, along with Daniel Dae Kim as Firelord Ozai and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as General Iroh. The series is expected to release in February 2024.
