The Official Early Reviews Tout 'Andor' As Grittiest 'Star Wars' Yet
“Everything I did, I did for the Rebellion.” Since his debut in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Cassian Jeron Andor has represented a side of the Rebel Alliance not often seen in Star Wars. Throughout the aforementioned film, Cassian is seen carrying out deadly missions and assassinations in the name of victory over the Galactic Empire. This kind of exploration of the Rebellion is exactly what made me excited to hear that Diego Luna’s character would be getting his own series set during the early days of the growing rebel movement. With a focus on Cassian’s backstory and an emphasis on filming on location, Andor is an opportunity to show the true cost of war and the birth of the Rebel Alliance on a scale not yet seen in the previous Disney+ series. Judging from the early reviews for the show’s first few episodes, this might indeed be the case.
According to those who have already seen Andor’s premiere episodes set for release on September 21, the show is setting itself up to be a bold new entry in the galaxy far, far away. Reportedly, the show’s first four episodes are primarily about the dynamic between Cassian Andor and Luthen Rael, Stellan Skarsgård’s character, and the growing social unrest throughout the galaxy under Imperial rule. A few fans have even claimed the series to be among the most grounded in the franchise, displaying street-level warfare and exploring the political state of the Empire as well as the pockets of resistance that will help to form the Rebellion. Here are a few of the show’s earliest reactions from Star Wars fans on Twitter.

Whatever challenges the Rebellion does end up facing in the show, let’s hope Andor can save them and their dream.
