The Next Wave Of 'The High Republic' Is Here

“The galaxy is at peace, ruled by the
glorious REPUBLIC and protected by
the noble and wise JEDI KNIGHTS.

As a symbol of all that is good, the
Republic is about to launch STARLIGHT
BEACON into the far reaches of the
Outer Rim. This new space station will
serve as a ray of hope for all to see.

But just as a magnificent renaissance
spreads throughout the Republic, so
does a frightening new adversary. Now
the guardians of peace and justice
must face a threat to themselves, the
galaxy, and the Force itself....”
- Opening Crawl of Star Wars The High Republic

Earlier this year, Lucasfilm released a new series coming out in print form spanning books and comics. Onscreen, series like The Mandalorian, The Clone Wars, and even the sequel trilogy have their roots in the current timeline surrounding the lives of the Skywalkers. While some fans might have wished for canon stories set in the Old Republic era, for now they would have to settle for the time not too far in the past. This means that we see the legendary Jedi Master Yoda and a new class of Padawans. Set roughly two centuries before the events of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom MenaceThe High Republic gives fans a look at the golden age of the Jedi. These printed materials aim at a wide audience of different ages, from our youngest readers to adults.

Recently, Lucasfilm revealed details about the second wave of The High Republic Phase 1 coming out starting in June 2021. The Jedi must join forces with new allies against the new threat that has appeared from the darkness. Meanwhile, the current chancellor of the Republic plans "The Republic Fair" to unite the known worlds under a single banner of peace. As the attention of the galaxy is on the Fair, the threats in the Outer Rim plan their move against the Republic.

Once again, the events in the different print media intertwine with each other to paint a bigger picture of the High Republic era. This time, the series will expand to include new formats: a manga series published by Viz, and an 8x8 storybook for the youngest Star Wars fans.

Some may want to jump straight into the action of the second wave. However, if anyone wants to explore the High Republic time from the beginning, they can rewind back to the first wave of Phase I, which was released earlier in 2021. In the first wave, we were introduced to a new setting in a familiar yet foreign world. There are new Jed knights, masters, and Padawans. While the Jedi flourish, they fear a new enemy lurking in the shadows. The many storylines converge, leading up to the historic Great Hyperspace Disaster.

Star Wars novels and comics have always been a joy to fans through the ages. While the Star Wars Expanded Universe books are considered Legends, this new The High Republic publishing campaign is a start of the new era of printed canonical materials for the newest Star Wars fans as well as the old.
