The Star Wars universe has been growing every year by adding new characters into our lives and bringing back ones from some of our favorite shows/movies. The Mandalorian has already cemented its presence as a heavy hitter in the Star Wars fandom and has become a fan favorite not only because of how genuinely awesome the character is but also from the cameos that we have received from the two seasons of the show as well. Additionally, from a recent announcement, Star Wars fans are excited to hear that the live-action show will be receiving its first-ever manga adaption, which is not the first time Star Wars has dabbled into the manga world.

The news confirms that we will be seeing Mando and Grogu in a manga adaption form of the show’s first season, with an adaption of the second season as a possibility, depending on how well the first piece does. Which, I believe, will have no issue pulling in big numbers for the Star Wars team. From the great reception they received from the Disney+ original series Star Wars: Visions, Star Wars is pulling in a whole new fan base while still attempting to please its current fans. In addition, a few stand-out episodes received massive publicity on social media from fans worldwide, such as The Duel, The Elder, and The Twins.

The current release date for the first issue of the manga adaption, which we can assume is Chapter 1 of the series, is May 25th. The company doing the adaption, Big Gangan, has previously worked alongside Disney for a series of Spider-Man comics and has a long history for Six Bullets, Green Worldz, and Dr. Duo. The type of manga The Mandalorian will adapt to is called mangaka, a manga that revolves around one person. This manga adaption and the release of Visions are drawing in a whole new potential audience for the Star Wars community. Multiple other sources have confirmed that this adaption of The Mandalorian is not the only manga adaption coming. It was previously announced that The Elder episode from Visions will also be receiving its own adaption. This is all great and exciting news.

Star Wars is no stranger to manga. Books like Lost Stars, Leia: Princess of Alderaan, and Guardians of the Whills all got a manga adaptation. Fans patiently wait for a release date for Season 3 of The Mandalorian after one of the lead actors, Giancarlo Esposito, possibly revealed somewhat of a statement for the release. In an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, the actor who portrayed Moff Gideon claimed that the season would be coming sometime in the summer, “very soon.” Unfortunately, there has been no official word from Lucasfilm yet. The announcement of the manga adaption may be something to hold fans temporarily over until the official release of season 3 of the show.

While the plot for season 3 of The Mandalorian is unknown, we know that we will see some familiar faces returning. Moff Gideon specifically will be one character we get to see come back and bring back his powerful presence as a villain. After the end of season 2, we see Moff Gideon being taken off for questioning about his war crimes against the rebellion. In any event, he will return, whether through escaping captivity or someone breaking him out. Giancarlo Esposito confirmed he has filmed scenes for the 3rd season of The Mandalorian, which is where the source of his character is returning from. We are all patiently waiting for any sort of announcement of a release date for the show’s next season.
