'The Flash' Season 8 Will Open With a “Crossover-Type” Event

The Arrowverse (or Cw-verse) crossovers are returning!

This past Tuesday, CW network chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz made the announcement that the upcoming season 8 of The Flash will begin with five special event episodes featuring heroes from across the Arrowverse.

"The idea for The Flash is [showrunner] Eric Wallace and [executive producer Greg Berlanti] have come together, and we're talking about other superheroes from the CW-verse that will come together in each individual episodes. It will not quite be a crossover, but it will have a crossover-type feel with the introduction of all these characters."

Currently, it’s unknown which actors/actresses established in the popular TV franchise would show up on The Flash’s first five episodes in November. But there is a hint from Pedowitz.

"I'll let you have those conversations with Eric Wallace. We do know that there are a couple feelers out to a couple of the actors, but we have no definitives yet.”

It’s possible that Black Lighting actor Cress Williams might make an appearance in the upcoming eight season of The Flash based on recent comments. He said:

"[We're] just in the talks phase. I really enjoyed the crossover last year. Specifically, I think me and Grant [Gustin], we're just very like-minded in how we approach the work, and we had really great conversations. One of my favorite scenes of doing this character was the scene between me and him in the library [on the Waverider in "Crisis on Infinite Earths."] So the thought of being able to go back and do an episode here or an episode there? Oh yeah, no, I'm down for that."

After the 2019 Crisis on Infinite Earths event on The CW, there was a smaller crossover planned between episodes of Batwoman and Superman & Lois. But due to the COVID-19 outbreak of 2020, the event was canceled.

Season 7 of The Flash will wrap filming by late June or early July. Then production for season 8 starts in September for late 2021 premiere.
