Grab your chainsaws and brush up on your Sumerian, because the first trailer for Evil Dead Rise is here! It may not include Raimi in the director’s chair, or Campbell starring (he will still be producing), but this new trailer is sure to elicit new fears from viewers while delivering the same scares that audiences have come to love.

The trailer shows a woman caring for a sick family member. She is clearly infected by the deadites without their knowledge, which will ultimately lead to their downfall. Her nails are blackened, her eyes staring blankly, and her skin grey with black veins. As her conditions grow worse, so do the fates of the family as she becomes more dangerous and demonic with each passing flash of the scenes.

The movie looks to take place beyond the cabin that is so heavily shown in the films of the past. Instead, this will take place within a high-rise apartment building. This will no doubt lead to an even more claustrophobic, dangerous setting than the cabin of prior films. The trailer shows the antagonist crawling through ventilation ducts and the family bracing for an attack in a small bathroom.

The building may be the main setting, though clips allude to a cabin on the lake. Surprisingly, this cabin appears different from the infamous one, so it will be interesting to see what part these new settings will play. A drastic change in a setting like this has not been seen in the films since that of Army of Darkness.

Alyssa Sutherland, Lily Sullivan, and Morgan Davies star in the latest Evil Dead film, written and directed by Lee Cronin. This will be the first movie in the horror franchise since the 2013 reboot/sequel, and the latest installment since the cancellation of the Ash vs. Evil Dead series. Be sure to check out Evil Dead Rise when it releases in theaters on April 20th, 2023.
