Hellena Taylor, the original voice actress for Bayonetta, has released another series of tweets regarding her departure from Bayonetta 3. She confirms that she was offered $15,000 for her work on the game after an initial offer of $10,000. She declined this offer, however, and was offered a cameo role for $4,000 11 months later.

Despite this, she asserts that fans should still boycott the game and donate to charity. Taylor still believes that these companies are trying to save face, perhaps throwing Jason Schreier under the bus and claiming he may be one of the industry’s “powerful journalists.”

Public opinion has shifted chiefly against Taylor. Most claim that due to her leaving these facts out, she tarnished her story. Had she left these facts in and told the whole story, many have stated that they would have been on her side. Others also fear that she has damaged the advocacy for higher wages for voice actors.

Platinum Games also released a statement regarding this situation. They stand by the new actress, Jennifer Hale, and denounce any harassment or disrespectful comments toward her.

This situation revolving around the pay of voice actors in video games is definitely divisive and complicated, but at this time, it appears that the Bayonetta 3 situation is resolved for now. However, it is unclear what effect this will have on the game’s sales, Taylor’s career, and the fight for voice-over talent to be paid higher wages.
