'The Bad Batch' Will Probably Be More Than 14 Episodes
Welcome, folks! Today, we are bringing you some updated news regarding the new, upcoming Disney+ Star Wars series - The Bad Batch.
As it stands at the moment, details have been pretty scarce, to say the least. Up until now, we know the series premiere will take place on Tuesday, May the 4th. (Is there really any better day to start a new Star Wars series?) The premiere will have a runtime of a whopping 70 minutes, and episode 2 will land on Friday, May 7th. However, we have insight regarding how many episodes there could be.
We have now learned there will likely be at least 14 episodes. Recently, The Bad Batch composer, Kevin Kiner appeared on the podcast Full of Sith and spoke about his work. During discussions, he mentions he has just finished scoring episode 14. He also goes on to describe the episode a little, stating it takes place within a jungle.
This pretty much confirms that there will be at least 14 episodes in the series. It's also worth noting the way in which he speaks about the episode. His description doesn't really give off any ''finale'' vibes, so we may be able to assume there are likely going to be more than 14, but this would just be an assumption at this point until further details are released.
Now, whilst a huge amount of Star Wars fans eagerly await the launch of The Bad Batch, there is a glaring, potential problem with the information we know so far. Disney+ seem to have missed the fact that they have another upcoming, huge release which may cause a problem or two - Loki.
This newest edition to the Marvel TV roster is scheduled for release on June 11th, and we know it is set to be at least six episodes long. With the confirmation of The Bad Batch having at least 14 episodes, it means these two will, inevitably, go head to head with episodes releasing weekly on each Friday. From a marketing perspective, this seems like a bit of an oddball choice as it could, potentially, cause a split between Star Wars and Marvel fans alike making them have to choose between the two on release date.
Based on the success of the first two Marvel Disney+ shows, WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it could be safe to assume that, once Loki launches, it could see the Friday premiere figures for The Bad Batch dissipate somewhat. It seems strange that Disney would move The Bad Batch new episode release dates to Fridays instead of just leaving them as Tuesday like the series premiere.
I fully believe, though, that both shows will be great. However, it's common for TV shows, especially of this caliber, to be judged based on episode premier figures, it's usually a big deal. Having two big shows launching brand new episodes on the same day could only serve to damage this for each show.
As a parent of three myself, it's highly unlikely that I will be able to watch both on the same night, meaning that I, too, will be one of the many people having to pick one or the other on release day, then playing catch up with the other.
On the flip side, you could also argue that Loki will be the one to suffer lower premiere episode figures, as The Bad Batch will already be 5 episodes in by this point, and people may choose to prioritize this over Loki, due to already being invested in the story. It's anyone's guess at this point, however. As stated above, it seems like something Disney could have easily avoided by just keeping to a Tuesday release for The Bad Batch.
Well, there you have it then. Everything we know, so far, about The Bad Batch. We will be keeping you updated as and when new information is released. But until then...
May The Force Be With You!!
