'The Acolyte' And 'Ashoka' Reportedly Begin Filming Early 2022
The amount of Star Wars content coming to Disney+ is extravagant and exciting, especially in the year of 2022 which seems to be the big one, with a whole bunch of Star Wars content dropping throughout most of the year. With a full year of Star Wars shows coming soon, that means a lot of these series should be beginning their production soon. Lucasfilm seems to have a lot of production of material ahead of them and it seems that soon they will be adding Ashoka and The Acolyte to the production list as both shows were rumored to be shooting sometime next year.
According to Bespin Bulletin, it is said Ashoka and The Acolyte are reportedly filming in early 2022. It would make sense given the production time and both series possibly appearing by 2023. As of now, it seems 2022 will feature Andor, Obi-Wan Kenboi, The Book of Boba Fett and Mandalorian. Not in that order necessarily, but those are the shows that seem to be scheduled to appear on Disney+, as they are currently in production. With production continuing on, it would only go to show that 2022 would be the 2023 production schedule, hoping of course that something random doesn’t happen to setback the process. It will make for an interesting 2022 production year as we go through the actual content of 2023.

These two shows are going to deal with both the light and dark side of the Force. Ahsoka, who no longer claims the mantle of Jedi, will be going on a heroic adventure to find Grand Admiral Thrawn, and perhaps run into a few familiar faces from the Ghost crew along the way, such as Ezra Bridger and Sabine Wren. It seems like this show will not only continue her story but continue, and perhaps set up the next phase, of the characters from Star Wars Rebels as well, whose tale ended on a bit of a cliffhanger. Most importantly this takes place during the time of the events of Disney+’s greatest show, The Mandalorian and part of a wider streaming universe that they seem to be setting up.
As for The Acolyte, not much about the series is yet known to us, except for the fact that it will take place several years before The Phantom Menace, set at the very end of the High Republic era, and by the looks of it, could possibly focus on someone who is tapping into the dark side of the Force. It will be interesting if this show takes that direction, for we’ve never seen a Star Wars show with a focus purely on the dark side. Of course that is all speculation at the moment, for it is really unknown what exactly the show will actually be about.
With so many shows coming out, it’s going to be hard to keep track just what will be in production and what won't. Lucasfilm is hard at work at the moment ensuring that all these streaming series get released, and soon, for us Star Wars fans to enjoy. That means Lucasfilm is going full speed during this and next year. Hopefully as production begins we will start to hear more and more about these projects as they get made, and learn whatever little secrets we can, for Star Wars fans love their leaks. So with this in mind, the next year of Star Wars content is looking bright, for with all this new content, we will soon be able to get all sorts of wonderful stories set in a galaxy far, far, away.
