Temuera Morrison Reveals Directors For 'The Book Of Boba Fett'
When fans last saw Boba Fett in Return of the Jedi, things weren’t going well for the once proud bounty hunter. Despite beating out his competition and claiming the bounty on the infamous Han Solo, a lucky strike from the visually impaired smuggler damaged Boba’s jetpack. This damage resulted in his plummeting to what would surely be his doom into the waiting jaws of the vicious sarlacc pit. It didn’t take long for his life to be spared in the Legends expanded universe, but in the new cano,n it seemed like he had met his end. As the years went by, the bounty hunter's absence for the new supplementary material set post-Return of the Jedi was sorely noticed.
Then The Mandalorian came and, after a few teasing camos, it wasn’t long before Fett was back in his father’s armor doing what he did best. After an explosive, and characteristically violent, return to form, fans were thrilled to see more of their favorite bounty hunter. The Mandalorian delivered on that promise in its season finale. A post-credit scene saw Fett arrive at Jabba’s Palace, now under the command of Bib Fortuna. After shooting the now glutinous Twi’lek, Fett took his place on the throne. Then a title card revealed that Fett would return as the star of his own spin-off, titled The Book of Boba Fett.
The man himself, Temuera Morrison, has come forth to give fans a peak into the pages of the book. As much as he can anyway; “you know the rules,” he teased. No spoilers, this is the way. He did reveal that the show will take place during the timeline of The Mandalorian and show what Boba was up to. Given what we know about that, it may be safe to assume it will have flashbacks chronicling how he escaped his confinement in the belly of the beast as well as how he tracked the titular Mandalorian himself. Ming-Na Wen has also confirmed that she will return and reprise her role as the assassin Fennec Shand, whom Fett saved after her near-death experience on the sands of Tatooine.
In addition to the sparse plot details, Morrison was able to more freely divulge the members of the creative team helming the up-and-coming series. In his mind, the crew has been blessed and it’s hard to argue with his assessment. It’s quite the impressive ensemble, with years of vast accumulated experience between them. Fans will also be pleased to know that they are all veterans from The Mandalorian.
First on the list is Jon Favreau, a man who needs no introduction. Not only did he create The Mandalorian, but he also helmed a bit of the cultural juggernaut that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Up next, hot off his new promotion, the executive creative director of Lucasfilm himself, Dave Filoni. His contributions to Star Wars include the fan favorite The Clone Wars series. Finally, we have directors Robert Rodriquez and Bryce Dallas Howard. Both of them have previously directed episodes of The Mandalorian.
The Book of Boba Fett promises to deliver a new world full of new possibilities. Morrison seems confident that the fans are going to love what the team is bringing to the project. At this time, there’s no news on a second season, but “the tree is still growing.” Lucasfilm has already listed numerous Star Wars projects in development, so the sky’s the limit, and with Favreau onboard, a connected universe seems inevitable. An Instagram post from costar Wen revealed that filming wrapped up in early June. So it’s safe to assume the show is still on track to be released on its previously established time in December of this year.
