Taylor Swift Announces New Surprise Album With 13th Grammy Win
The 2024 Grammy Awards saw many firsts and exciting performances by artists who hadn’t performed in decades. It was truly a night to remember, even more so for Taylor Swift fans, as she won her history-making fourth Album of the Year award, 13th Grammy win, and announced a new album no one was expecting.
After winning her 13th Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights, she announced that 13 was her lucky number and she was releasing a new album. “I want to say thank you to the members of the Recording Academy for voting this way, but I know that the way that the Recording Academy voted is a direct reflection of the passion of the fans. So I want to say ‘thank you’ to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years — which is that my brand new album comes out April 19.”

The album is called The Tortured Poet’s Department. As soon as the announcement was made, Taylor posted the cover and reveal on her social media with the note: “All’s fair in love and poetry… New album THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT. Out April 19.” The album cover is black and white and features Taylor laying in bed. She also shared a photo of her writing, possibly lyrics to one or more of the songs on the album: “And so I enter into evidence / My tarnished coat of arms / My muses, acquired like bruises / My talismans and charms / The tick, tick, tick of love bombs / My veins of pitch black ink / All’s fair in love and poetry.” She ended the announcement with: “Sincerely, The Chairman of the Tortured Poets Department.”
The album will have a deluxe version, as is normal for Taylor’s albums, but the standard album will feature 16 songs. She has announced the song titles on her social media as well.
The Tortured Poet’s Department is her 11th album.
