'Succession' Writer Francesca Gardiner Finalist To Bring 'Harry Potter' To The Small Screen
We first heard about Max’s Harry Potter series-format reboot in April last year. In January, we learned that Max had been accepting writers’ pitches to bring J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World to life. From that came a shortlist, and we now know that the shortlist is down to three names, one of them being that of ‘Succession’ writer Francesca Gardiner.
Besides her work on seasons 3 and 4 of Succession, Gardiner has also worked on several different shows, including Killing Eve and The Man in the High Castle. Fan reactions have been mixed but they were mostly positive in regards to Gardiner’s potential involvement. Some of the negative comments appeared on Reddit and revolved around making another straight adaptation as opposed to branching out and diversifying from existing content.
It is expected that the series will get the episodic treatment, likely with one season being dedicated to each book. Besides the original seven books, the Harry Potter franchise has grown to include retail stores, theme park attractions, a stage play, and the Fantastic Beasts spinoffs.
