Respawn director Stig Asmussen has decided to leave Electronic Arts to pursue new ventures. Having joined Respawn to guide the team on their Star Wars projects, the studio is now considered one of EA’s best thanks to the success of Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor. That success even reversed the company-wide mandate that all games should have multiplayer features.

In a statement, an EA spokesperson said of the departure, “After careful thought and consideration, Stig Asmussen has decided to leave Respawn to pursue other adventures, and we wish him the best of luck.” Asmussen’s guidance will continue to be with the team, as “Veteran Respawn leaders will be stepping up to guide the team as they continue their work on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.”

That work includes bringing the game to the PS4 and Xbox One, along with various other patches the game on all systems may need. But then, what of the future? Back in March, Asmussen talked about seeing the Jedi games as a trilogy and taking advantage of the improvements that Unreal Engine 5 provides to deliver even more breathtaking visuals than the previous two games. If a third game is still something that Respawn wants to pursue, it’s unlikely we’ll be hearing about it any time soon.
