'Star Wars: Visions Volume 2' Will Have Formats Other Than Anime In It

James Waugh changed Star Wars forever with the premiere of Star Wars: Visions last September. The show brought together seven different Japanese animation studios to tell their own, original Star Wars stories in different animation and drawing styles. Fans and critics alike took to the series with Episode 1: The Duel being considered for an Emmy in the Outstanding Animated Program category.
Now with Volume Two in the works, it looks like Waugh is aiming to bring even more diversity into the Star Wars galaxy.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Waugh gave fans an idea of what they can expect with the new volume. He explained that while Volume One was a reflection of how much he and many other creators on the Lucasfilms team love anime, he always planned for Star Wars: Visions to be a “broad palette”. He also said that for him Star Wars: Visions was going to be a “sub-brand” that allowed people to explore Star Wars in their own unique ways.
Volume Two will still be a fully animated anthology, but this time the animation studios will be from South Africa, Chile, England, Ireland, France, and India. Waugh said that using studios from across the globe allows creators to show what Star Wars looks like in their culture and to also share and explore their culture’s myths and stories.

While there is currently no premiere date set, Waugh said they are focusing on Spring 2023.
