Star Wars Trading Post In Downtown Disney Opening February 19th

A brand-new store, the Star Wars Trading Post, is currently making its way through hyperspace, and is set to arrive on February 19 at Downtown Disney, just outside the Disneyland parks in Anaheim, California. Taking over the space originally occupied by Rainforest Café, the store is set to be a one-stop-shop for all of your Star Wars-related needs, including all sorts of collectibles, knick-knacks, apparel, lightsabers, droids, and creatures, as well as various items from the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction inside the park. The store itself is made out to appear similar to the Resistance’s jungle base in The Rise of Skywalker, with Rey’s Speeder hanging just outside the entrance for good measure.

With the Coronavirus pandemic still raging in Southern California, the Disneyland parks, both Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure respectively, have been shut down since early last year. Due to the nature of these extraordinary times and circumstances, this has led to the recent announcement that the parks would be re-evaluating their Annual Passholder program, including making any existing passholders who had purchased them prior to March 14, 2020 into Legacy Passholders. This new distinction comes with exclusive benefits, including 30% off any purchase at Downtown Disney and/or Buena Vista Street, now through February 25. Along with this, you can also make a reservation to visit the Star Wars Trading Post before it officially opens, from February 16 through 18. So if you’re currently a passholder, you can get ahead of the crowd and into the store before anyone else does!

Once you do get inside, you can expect to find all sorts of new Star Wars gear you will not be able to find anywhere else, including a light-up sipper with a Paddy Frog in the center, reminiscent of the ones featured in Jabba’s Palace during the events of Return of the Jedi. These had previously only been available in Docking Bay 7 at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and at Ronto Roasters at the attraction of the same name in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida. So whether you’re dealing with the Hutts or the First Order, or just looking to show off your dark side, you’re bound to make an impression with this fully-functional trinket from the mighty Jabba himself!

Aside from the sipper, there will also be a new slate of streetwear making its debut alongside the store, with everyone’s favorite new Star Wars character, The Child, also known as Grogu, at the center of it. The line will include a backpack, hats, leggings, t-shirts, and so much more. You can also find select items shipped in from the Outer Rim planet of Batuu, which will also be available online at ShopDisney.com.

Previously, the Trading Post itself had been temporarily housed in what was the WonderGround Gallery, a prominent fixture at Downtown Disney. The gallery itself, which featured a number of unique art pieces, houseware items, and fashion accessories of its own, is set to make its return, with a reopening taking place sometime after or around February 19.

For the time being, and provided that you have the Galactic Credits on hand to spare, this store sounds like a must-visit for any Star Wars fan, and the perfect opportunity to grab a Darth Vader coffee mug, Kylo Ren’s crossguard lightsaber, and The Mandalorian’s Beskar helmet all in one go! A brief reminder, however: If you’re going to partake in the action, all guests 2 and older must wear a face mask and social distance at all times, and are encouraged to utilize the hand-washing stations on offer as often as possible. May the Force be with you!
