'Star Wars' Reveals 'Skywalker: A Family At War,' A New Biography Coming This Spring

Now that the Skywalker saga has reached its conclusion, it is time for Lucasfilm to take a look back at the entire Skywalker family examining the family closer than ever before in an all new book. Recently, on This Week! In Star Wars, author Kristin Baver made the announcement that she will take a microscope to the Skywalkers, looking at their history, their relationships, and their impact throughout the galaxy. Her upcoming biography of the powerful family, titled Skywalker: A Family at War, will take a close look at the entire family tree, starting at the prequels with Shmi Skywalker all the way to the sequel films with Rey. The biography will take us through important events, not only touching on the films, but also on comics, novels, and expanded material.

For this writer, this comes after life-long passion and dedication to the characters and franchise. She revealed in her interview that she had watched the films many times over as a child and would try to map out her own book. Not only that, but she has been an associate editor at Star Wars.com for years. Essentially, this has been her passion project years in the making.

“I’m so thrilled to be able to tell the story of the Skywalkers through the lens of a biographer. From the outset, I knew I wanted to treat the family as if they were real people, with compassion and empathy, while simultaneously crafting an unflinching portrait of their accomplishments and their failures. These characters are larger than life yet so fragile and unmistakably human, and that comes into focus when you study how their actions impact the greater galaxy and their family.”

If you are looking for the perfect gift for your mother for any occasion, consider looking at this collection of Mother’s Rings. They are the perfect way to say I love you to the most important woman in your life.

For now, that is all the information we have. Star Wars has, however, released a look at the cover, which you can check out down below! The art throughout the novel was created by Matt Ferguson, who is a very well renowned artist throughout the industry. He creates and sells various posters for popular franchises such as Marvel, Star Wars, Blade Runner, and more at cakesandcomics.com. It comes as no surprise then that the cover art is stunning, as he has created the poster art for the 40th anniversary celebration of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Ferguson said that his inspiration for this cover design was derived from the original poster design for A New Hope in 1977, but he also looked to concept art from John Berkey. Ferguson explained:

“I have very strong memories of pouring over the photos in the novelization before I got to see the film, and the imagery sparked my imagination like nothing else."

This latest work includes the siblings Luke and Leia at the forefront, saber and blaster in hand while Vader looms behind them, clenching an iron fist. A powerful and exciting image to be sure, as well as a refreshing take on the old poster from 1977. Ferguson added:

“I really enjoyed doing my take on the classic Star Wars composition. I think making the Vader element was my favorite part. He just has such a great costume design!”

The book Skywalker: A Family At War will be available soon in the spring of 2021. So we will not have to wait long to know all of the exciting or tragic stories of our favorite characters.
