It seems Disney is not afraid of spending a few extra credits on the production of Star Wars: Andor. The streaming show increased its budget to $290.9 million, bringing the show’s total budget to $645 million, making Andor the most expensive Star Wars production Disney has disclosed the budget for to date, eclipsing both Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ $243.8 million and Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s $280.7 million. In addition, the $290.9 million increase does not even cover the full extent of the shoot, as this amount was spent on November 22nd, 2023.

Season 2 of Andor began filming in November of 2022 and paused in the summer of 2023 due to the SAG-AFTRA strike before resuming in January of this year. The initial filming was followed by a year of intense post-production. Andor is set five years before Star Wars: A New Hope and features plenty of practical effects to keep it more grounded, which is perhaps where a huge amount of the budget went. The show’s first season was a huge hit with fans and non-fans alike, scoring an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. Season 2 of Star Wars: Andor is set to premiere on Disney+ in April of this coming year.
