'Squid Game' Gets First Look At Season 2 Coming 2024
Squid Game is back!
When Squid Game premiered in 2021, its intensity and suspense made for a sensation that enthralled viewers. Now, it’s coming back.
Although an exact release date has yet to be announced, we know a bit about what to expect. Netflix released the first clip from the series, along with an image and a brief summary of what to expect. In the upcoming season, Netflix tells viewers they’ll get to see the character Gi-Hun, portrayed by Emmy winner Lee Jung-Jae, making critical decisions and embarking on ‘a chase with a motive.’
Besides Gi-Hun, other fan favourites are expected to return, characters such as Front Man and Recruiter. New characters will also be introduced, including an as-yet unknown new addition played by actress Park Gyu-Young.
First debuting on Netflix in 2021, Squid Game is a South Korean television series in which 456 players in financial hardship are pitted against each other in a series of children’s games with a deadly twist, with the winner gaining a prize of 45.6 billion South Korean won. Drawing its name from a similarly-named Korean children’s game, the series creator conceived the idea based on his own economic struggles as well as capitalism and South Korean class disparity. First written in 2009, the series was picked up by Netflix in 2019 as part of their effort to expand their foreign programming.
