'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Officially Joins The Exclusive Billionaire's Club

*Spoiler warning for Spider-Man: No Way Home*

Hype and expectations were equally high for Spider-Man: No Way Home, the third installment of Tom Holland's run as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. In the weeks and months leading up to the movie's release on December 17th, internet fan theories and speculation ran wild. With the film now released for over a week in theaters, Marvel fans late to the party are still desperately avoiding spoilers, and with good reason. The reveals, fights, and characters in the film deserve to be seen for the first time on the big screen.

With that being said, it seems everyone and their aunt has flocked back to theaters to see the newest addition to the MCU. It is unsurprising that a Disney film is a financial success, between Marvel and Star Wars the House of Mouse is no stranger to box office profits. However, Spider-Man: No Way Home has reached several impressive benchmarks worth highlighting, starting with its $1 billion dollar take at the global box office. As we examine the impressive financial success, we will also be looking at attributes of the movie that led to this success so this is your official spoiler warning.

Following the events of WandaVision and Loki, the MCU multiverse continued to escalate during the events of No Way Home. Beginning with Doctor Otto Octavius attacking Tom Holland's Peter Parker, the appearance of the Green Goblin, and Dr. Strange capturing the Lizard (a fight we desperately need to see, given that the Lizard landed a few blows on the good doctor), the MCU began to cross over with other familiar iterations of the famed wall crawler. The film only escalated from there, culminating in a knock-down, drag-out fight atop the Statue of Liberty.

These events, not-so sneakily marketed to hide Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire's participation, caught the attention of die-hard Marvel fans and casual movie goers alike. No Way Home has made $1.05B at the box office as of this writing, making it the 2nd most successful film in Sony's history and the most profitable film of 2021. What is even more impressive about this success is that it is the first film to accomplish this feat without any revenue from the Chinese market. This is unlikely to change any time soon as Shang-Chi, Eternals, and Black Widow were all also not released in China.

Demonstrating the popularity of the Spider-Man character, No Way Home is also one of the fastest films to make $1B, reaching the benchmark in only 12 days. The only two movies to reach the mark faster were Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. In fact, only 49 films have ever made a billion at the box office. No Way Home joins elite company, among the likes of Jurassic Park, The Dark Knight, The Return of the King, and several other Marvel and Star Wars films.

The juggernaut that is the MCU continues to charge on, with a trailer for the newest Dr. Strange film, Multiverse of Madness, dropping as the final end credit scene of No Way Home. Marvel has already demonstrated that it is a master of the slow burn and culminative events. Releasing enjoyable films with their own unique and engaging plots, all the while planting seeds (or infinity stones) across their universe that are all tied together in a final climactic movie, as seen in Endgame. Given the success of the Infinity Saga, and the popular Marvel series being released on Disney+, No Way Home is certainly not the final billion dollar project from Marvel Studios.
