Sony Drops Final 'Morbius' Trailer
This April 1st, Morbius, the human-vampire and one Spider-Man's greatest villains, is set to debut on the big screen. Played by Jared Leto, Morbius is a film produced by Marvel Entertainment and Columbia Pictures and distributed by Sony Pictures. The history behind Spider-Man and Morbius started in 1971 in Amazing Spider-Man #101. However, with the recent Venom movies, it looks like Sony is taking the anti-hero approach when it comes to portraying live-action characters on the big screen.
Morbius' real name is Dr. Michael Morbius, and he is based out of New York and is a former member of the Legion of Monsters, along with Werewolf, Ghost Rider, and Man-Thing. Morbius was considered a pseudo-vampire, while actual vampires have supernatural abilities; Morbius possessed several motivations and characteristics as true vampires. While Morbius shares a timeline with Doctor Strange, Doctor Strange destroyed all vampires on Earth using the Dark Formula of the Darkhold.

However, Dr. Michael Morbius was not affected by the Dark Formula of the Darkhold because he is not a real vampire. After all, Morbius does need to drink fresh blood to survive. Dr. Michael Morbius was a Nobel Prize winner in biochemistry who discovered he was dying from a rapid dissolving of his blood cells. Dr. Morbius tried to slow the progress of this disease by using distilled substances from vampire bats. He absorbed an electric shock to stimulate the growth of more blood cells, but instead, there was an adverse effect on Dr. Morbius, which caused Morbius to transform into a being much like a supernatural vampire.
One of the biggest takeaways, aside from Morbius's vampire look's intense visuals, is Smith's Loxias taking a bigger spotlight. In the previous Morbius trailers, the Doctor Who star has only appeared briefly without any dialogue, making this the first proper taste of the character in the Marvel anti-hero film.
The new final trailer has been released and allows fans another look at the latest Marvel Spidey villain. Morbius was initially scheduled to release in the summer of 2020 but had been delayed several times due to COVID-19. But now, they finally released the trailer just one month before its theatrical release. Another villain in the movie is the Vulture, played by Michael Keaton. Whether or not this iteration of the Vulture has any connections to the MCU remains to be seen. Nor does the trailer provide any insight into whether The Vulture breaks out of prison or not. This leads to the notion that The Vulture, aka Adrian Toomes, influences Dr. Michael Morbius regarding Morbius adapting to his new abilities. Morbius will also face many obstacles, one being Loxias, the Doctor Who star.
Morbius appears to have some good surprises in store for the Marvel fanbase. An adversary and ally are who have made appearances in MCU films before are set to star beside Dr. Michael Morbius. This should be an exciting film and story. Some great actors are in leading roles as well. Jared Leto is Morbius, who has also played a role as the Joker in Suicide Squad. Michael Keaton is The Vulture who played Batman in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman film.
No reason for the MCU fanbase to worry about being disappointed. Morbius looks like a great film. It will be interesting to see how Morbius's story unfolds and where this film will take the MCU in Spider-Man's timeline or even Doctor Strange's timeline. It's exciting that Marvel/Sony are beginning to develop characters from the early 1970s when things got really weird.
