Simon Pegg Talked About His Time In 'Mission: Impossible' And The Upcoming Season Of 'The Boys'

The next Mission: Impossible film has arrived, with Dead Reckoning Part One premiering in Rome. Part of its cast is Simon Pegg, who talked with Collider’s Steve Weintraub during that premiere about his experiences on the film and the future.

Main star Tom Cruise is famous for performing his own stunts, and during Dead Reckoning Part One, that was taken to a new extreme with a motorbike and a cliff. Pegg recalls that he was watching it and recording it on his phone. “…I’ve got the whole thing, and I zoom in, and he goes off, and just disappears. You can hear us just go silent as we’re waiting to hear that he’s alive, and then we all just laugh like children, like giddy, ridiculous, insane children, because the relief, I cannot tell you, the relief was amazing.”

Along with appearing in the Mission: Impossible franchise, Pegg has also starred in the TV series The Boys as Hughie’s father. A recurring character of season one, he’s only had a small appearance in season three since. With season four, he is now back to recurring status, and Pegg is promising “it’s gonna get crazier” compared to how crazy the series usually is. “It’s going to be great. You’re gonna love it.”

There was a time when Pegg wasn’t such a famous name—a time when Shaun of the Dead was just starting his push to worldwide fame. “I sometimes think that, and wonder. I would love to go back and just tell myself because I would have an absolute conniption fit. It’s kind of mind-blowing. You and I met 20 years ago next year, at Comic-Con 2004, and that was when we were kind of out there pushing Shaun of the Dead, which no-one had seen at the time.”

Join Simon Pegg, Tom Cruise, and the rest of the cast in a new Mission: Impossible when Dead Reckoning Part One arrives in theatres on July 12.
