'She-Hulk' Show Reveals New Look At Jameela Jamil's Character
We’re a few days away from the finale of the Ms. Marvel show, marking Marvel Studios’ seventh Disney+ show to finish its run. However, Marvel is already prepared to continue to enrich its cinematic universe and is bringing a show that is thoroughly different from anything Marvel has done before. The She-Hulk series is said to be a legal comedy show and is introducing Tatiana Maslany to the MCU as Jennifer Walters, the She-Hulk. Alongside her, the cast will comprise big returning roles such as Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Tim Roth’s Abomination, and a newcomer to the MCU, Jameela Jamil who will be playing Titania, the main antagonist of the show.
New Look At Main Villain Titania Revealed
This year, in June, we were given a glimpse at what Marvel has been preparing for us regarding the She-Hulk series with a teaser trailer. However, recently, Empire Magazine shared brand new images revealing a new look at Jamil’s villain character, Titania.
RELATED :
The first still shows Titania in the middle of the courtroom, looking fearless and confident, waving her red and black coat behind her as if she was provoking Walters in front of the whole court. Even though Jamil’s iteration of Titania doesn’t look similar to her counterpart in the comics, the essence of the latter is still delivered, and this is through the actress’ acting and the costume design.
In the second one, we see Jennifer Walters, standing straight with a costume partially ripped off and her hair looking rather unkempt, supposedly after she had shared a few punches with Titania in the courtroom. Behind her, we see her best friend Nikki who seems slightly worried by the situation, the audience in the gallery, and a painting that threatens to fall.
These new shots give us further information on how the action in this sequence might unfold itself. In the still, from the teaser trailer (the one below), Titania stands before a destroyed wall of the courtroom probably created after She-Hulk threw her in that direction. Maybe this is the way Titania uses to escape the courtroom after their fight. Here, Titania looks ashamed and defeated.
Jameela Jamil, The Perfect Casting?
This show seems to be a promising piece of comedy and absurdity that intends to include feminist themes within its core. So one could ask herself: How is she the perfect match for this role? Well, firstly Jamil proved herself worthy of a comedian by playing Tahani Al-Jamil in the fantasy comedy series The Good Place (2016-2020) and since then she’s been using her voice to speak on women’s accomplishments, body positivity, racial inclusivity, as well as criticizing toxic content creators who sell products meant to help you lose weight, notably via her podcast I Weight with Jameela Jamil. Ultimately, the irony in this casting is quite grandiose as the actress is set to portray a character that is inspired by the real-world Kardashians, the ones who she’s been criticizing for the past few years. Thusly, this show is presenting itself as another way for Jamil to speak and criticize some aspects of our society through the role of her character.
What Does Titania’s Appearance Mean In The Scope Of The MCU?
In the comics, before becoming the fearless and confident Titania, Walter’s rival was known as Mary McPherran, a short and scrawny teen that dreamed of fame and fortune to the point that one day she falsely confided to one of her friends that she was Spider-Woman after noticing that they had similar hair colour. Moreover, her story is very much tied to Doctor Doom’s for he is the one who gave her superpowers through the use of advanced technologies for the sole purpose of using her as a warrior for his army of supervillains during the Secret Wars event in Battleworld. Then, when she returned to Earth, Titania went on joining different villain groups throughout the years, such as the Masters Of Evil created by Baron Zemo and the Frightful Four, a group created to take down the Fantastic Four.
With that said, the MCU has a plethora of ways to give Titania a continuation of her story, which means that her being a villain doesn’t mean that her road has to end with this show. For instance, if Marvel decides to bring life to the Secret Wars event, she could probably take part in it. She could also possibly join the Thunderbolts group, and make an appearance in the future Thunderbolts project. Finally, one should not underestimate her connection with Victor Von Doom in the comics, as her origin story in the MCU could bring his name to the table and start to build his character as an anonymous villain whose origin story could be unfolded in the future Fantastic Four movie.
